How To Install Saints Row 2 Gentlemen of the Row On Linux! [TUTORIAL]
Edit: So this thread is almost 3 years old now, meaning something in this thread may not work, if you experience anything wrong when following this guide, feel free to write a comment I will be glad to help you!

First I want to make clear I'm using Ubuntu 16.0.4 LTS. This will work for most linux operating systems (Based on Debian and Ubuntu). Only copy everything inside of the quotation marks.

1. Install wine open a new terminal and type "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa" then hit continue.

2. Then install it by doing these commands "sudo apt-get update then do sudo apt-get install wine1.8 winetricks"

3. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ARE ON 64-BIT OPERATING SYSTEM! "sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386"

4. Now type this into your terminal "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wine/wine-builds" (These are all the wine builds)

5. Do "sudo apt-get update" to update the PPA

6. Type this into your terminal to get the recomended Wine version for your computer "sudo apt-get install --install-recommends winehq-devel"

7. Now configure wine to your liking by typing "winecfg"

8. Alright, now your ready to install Gentlemen of the Row On Linux go to idolninja's offical website and download his mod or click This[idolninja.saintsrowmods.com] link for an instant download

9. Extract the files and go to the folder then open your terminal and cd to the folder for example mine is in my downloads folder so I would do "cd ~/Downloads/Gentlemen_of_the_Row_Saints_Row_2_Super_Mod_v1.9.2"

10. Now in your terminal type "wine cmd" then type "start Create_Custom_GotR_v1.9.2.bat"

11. Now go through the installation like usual then go to the MY_CUSTOM_PATCH folder and take those files to your saints row 2 folder and drop them in (Make sure to backup the original files to revert the game back to normal!)

12. If you don't know how to get to your game folder go to steam right click Saints Row 2 and go to properties then local files then click on browse local files.

As much as I did like to install this mod this tutorial isn't very helpfull unless your good with the tech.

Then your awnser might be "don't mettle with it then"
Which indeed I won't untill I actually know what to do.

But my point being that this tutorial isn't very noob friendly.
I don't know what any of these programs are or what their general use is for.

I have modded many games to the point of breaking them, Specificly pointing at Skyrim :')
I now know how to mod Bethesda games as long as they have generally the same build as that of Skyrim or Fallout anyway.

But this is new for me.
I always wanted to install GOTR but never did I find a good tutorial that is noob friendly or non-confusing.

Thanks for reading, Hope the feedback helps and perhaps someone could assist. I did appriciate the help.
Thank you in advance.

Hello, Zappieroth132 I realize this tutorial isn't nevery noob friendly this is because Ubuntu / Linux Isn't a noob friendly OS you need to know what your doing. Really what the tutorial is telling you what to do is open the Linux terminal, and copy and paste commands.

I also didn't notice untill just now this is about Linux, So my bad for that :')
But when I try and install the mod using the ReadMe I don't get any further then step 2.....

No idea what to do with the administrator Tool. I launch it press enter when asked to continue using any button and it just closes itself without doing any additional stuff....

Maybe we should move this disscussion somewhere else? < Sorry for that.

Nice guide, thanks. It might help to put individual terminal commands in quotation marks our something to avoid any ambiguity. Works fine on Ubuntu 17.04.

Hi,
thanks for the tutorial. However, the method you use to update WINE is deprecated and not recommended. Additionally, the GotR patcher runs fine on WINE 1.6.2 (the version from the Ubuntu 16.04 repositories).

Yes, this is simply just a tutorial only for the linux OS, Here is how you install it for windows First go to this website http://idolninja.saintsrowmods.com/ and you will see a download button for saints row 2 gentle men of the row hit it, once it has finish open it and extract it anywhere, then open it up, and hit the .bat file named something like Create_custom_SR2_Patch (Sorry I can't remember what it is called right now) Then simply just hit pick what you want then hit P and it will create a custom patch then you drag the files that it made in the folder to your main saints row 2 directory (Make sure you back up files incase something goes wrong) Sorry if you dident understand this, here is a youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVU7KBqPoGQ
