Game Crashes at the Sons of Samedi mission Burning Down the House
Have tried it a couple of times. Always crashes after I'm done with the dust labs and the mission in general. Tried compatability, tried not dying. Everything. If you have any suggested solutions let me know

P.S. I already have GOTR

It worked! I turned down the graphics to LOW and the display to 1280x720.
I'm also running the Project Zero mod; I turned it off to complete the missions.

Just wanted to add some additional steps that helped me. This is for anyone Googling in 2023 and beyond, ending up on this thread. Did all the same things as Osmosis:

  • Set the display size to 1280x720.
  • Set the graphics to LOW. Stick with the out-of-box Low settings. Do NOT mess with it so it says 'Custom' instead.

Here's the additional steps I took that finally got me past the crash-to-desktop. It may work for you:
  • Do not use a blinged-up car from your garage. Use a random NPC vehicle or the Samedi vehicles.
  • I pressed the Esc key to skip the cutscene where the last lab technician runs away. Usually this screwed up other people's games, but it worked for me.
  • There is always a car parked just past the lab technician's Samedi car. Use it for the chase and....
  • ...HOLD FIRE! Do not shoot at the lab technician yet! Just chase him for one or two rounds. He never actually leaves the area, he follows a fixed path around the burning dust lab and there is no time limit.
  • Switch to pistol/handgun and take your time plinking single aimed shots at the lab technician's head at a relaxed pace.
  • Once you get the fatal headshot and the screen starts to fade, mash the Esc key. This skips the ending cutscene. Again, skipping cutscenes has gone badly for others, but it worked for me. I am happy to miss out on 90 secs of dialogue to have a more complete gaming journey.

As soon as I faded back to the street, I made 2 new saves.

FYI I have GotR installed.

I think my biggest issue was killing the lab technician too quickly, which put me too close to the dust lab that was burning up. Allowing the lab technician to do a few rounds I think allowed the game engine to better handle getting past the crash point.
