Ore Tracking (BUG)
I played with miners with Geode item on but no ores came, after the miners died and my thief was left, we got 1 ore every wave.... this was very strange

The second part where you got an ore every level is strange.

The first part is most definitely not strange.

I haven't run a miner team since the latest update that said it improved rare ore spawn over level 5000, but unless they changed more than that, ores spawning in dungeon levels (not mineshafts) only happen in the caverns levels at a rate of 10%. The benefit from ore find is capped at 100 ore find and only raises that chance to 20%.

This means that ores can only spawn in a 20 level range every 100 levels. Because 4 of those 20 levels are miniboss or boss levels, that means ores can only spawn on 16 of those 20 floors.

So, only 16% of the levels can even spawn an ore and they only do a maximum of 20% of the time. So, effectively, only around 3% of your floors will have ores spawn in them naturally, even at 100+ ore find.

If you're trying to concentrate on farming ores. The only really effective way is to run many miners to maximize your chances of getting mineshafts (and to pickaxe ores to death faster) and script them to transmute 1 enemy per non-boss / miniboss level. Ore find is pretty much useless no matter how much you have of it but a miner team with at least 4 miners in it hits the 100 ore find cap even without geodes.

Maybe we're talking about two different things, but the ore finding perk/accessories are meant to help you find more of the rare elements, rather than encountering ores more often.
By using miners you can make good use of mineshafts, which in turn would yeld more rare elements thanks to the "ore find" perk.

No, unless it changed with the last update, ore find does not increase your chance of finding more of the rare elements.

It works like I stated it works. Ore find only increases your chance to find ores on the levels they already can be found on.

Ores can only spawn in the caverns levels and can not spawn on boss / miniboss levels so only 16 out of every 100 levels can possibly spawn ores.

There is only a base 10% chance for ores to spawn on a floor where it's possible to spawn an ore.

Ore find's effect is capped at +100 ore find which increases that chance from 10% to 20%.


I'm not sure exactly what "ore finding perk" you're talking about but the only ones I know of are Miner's Prospector and Excavator passives.

Prospector just adds +15 ore find which acts as I mentioned above and does not increase ore rarity.

Excavator increases the chance mineshafts will spawn in side paths which does not increase ore rarity.


Also, considering that each miner you add to your team that is rank 24 or higher adds +28 ore find just from class ranks and the prospector passive, Geodes specifically are useless because it only takes 4 miners to hit the +100 ore find cap even without geodes.

The effects of having more excavator passives to increase your number of mineshafts and having more party members using 5 damage pickaxe attacks against ores means the more miners on your team the better your ore farm party is.

So, if you're setting a team up to farm ores, it should be 5-6 miners which gains the maximum effect of ore find without using geodes. It will also gain the vast majority of it's ores from transmute and mineshafts which are not affected by ore find in any way.

If you're not setting up a team specifically to farm ores and only hoping to gain a few while fighting normally, geodes are still a waste of an accessory slot because their benefit is so minor and other accessories will benefit you far more overall.
