The only exception is that by getting the blacksmith upgrade you can carry forward up to 50% of the resources you have.
For the most part, it's not very useful to craft or upgrade items before warrior dimension. Most of the gear you'd want to upgrade are likely to drop at a higher level on your next run anyway. Most of the things you can craft easily, you can get equivalent or better dropped gear.
Even though there isn't much use for crafting or upgrading, you may as well do it if you want to or you can get some benefit out of it because you're going to lose half or more of the resources you have when you progress anyway.
Still, it's better to concentrate on permanent benefits like unlocking upgrades and leveling your relics over temporary things like gear. Just use what you find and set your liquidate to sell everything except resources before going through the portal.
