Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm

So why do people hate Soulstorm and love Dark Crusade?
Never really understood this. i GUESS a campaign map on a single planet that is big and easy to keep track of is more immersive than several planets bunched together with everything appearing tiny until you zoom in just before your attack move.

On the other hand, I think 9 races really bring that much more diversity to the game than 7. And it might just be me, but I think its a bit harder too, given how (at least I remember) Dark Crusade used to save your map progress, so for example if you built listening posts everywhere and then that province got attacked, you'd start off with that huge map control advantage while in Soulstorm you start from scratch.

Anyways what are your thoughts

LOL people play campaign?
Install skirmish mod and play vs (great) AI.
Better yet go online and go vs other people.

Regardless of what Soulstorm was at launch, Soulstorm is the best version of Dawn of War as far as multiplayer games and skirmish games go because of the better balance. I am not claiming that Soulstorm is perfectly balanced, but it is the most balanced title in the Dawn of War I series.

The balance of power between races in Dark Crusade was an absolute joke. Necrons were a powerhouse that became closer and closer to unstoppable as time went on. The Imperial Guard were terrible.

In Soulstorm, the Necrons likely sit on the lower end of the spectrum after their nerfs from Dark Crusade, but the gap between races; as I said, is more narrow.
Totally agree, also I like Soulstorm over others because of my two favourite armies: DE and SoB/AS.

Yeah I dont understands, The commands were added as a progression factor, without them and the honor guard I might disregard the campaign
Holy necro-post, Batman.

The only real problem i had with ss is the take and hold missions, i like to sit back build up my base/research while defending then unleashing the fury :D

The fact that the campaign doesnt remember bases you built. Its tedious

Unless you are a veteran there is no way you will win against other players. It is filled with pros that will instantly wreck you.

Furthermore, the sisters aren't really that popular by the hardcore wing since they're considered to just be a cash grab with lore being written as they go. Again, these are the most common reasons.

Well, Tyranids and Grey Knights stomp all over the race additions here, but instead we got Dark Eldar & Sisters, who suck ♥♥♥♥ ;D. I know Relic wanted to save nids for DOW2 and its good they did but its still dissapointing. Aircraft were pointless, the campaign in Dark Crusade i never really liked but here it was god awful, too sparce with no detail to the overworld or interesting locale lore. I never get ALL the hate for this game, but most of it is justifiable, though the bugs are better now :)

You do realize that the space marines have grey knights right?

main reason i'll say why DC is better than soulstorm from someone who loves the lore of warhammer 40K

SS throws that lore out of the window entirely and i mean entirely.

HOW SO? I love and know more about the lore of warhammer 40k, and i'll say SS is better than DC.

Sisters are good in multiplayer, as long as you dont get battle sisters. Get a hero with inferno pistol, seraphins, or celestial squads to start with (depending on situation), and you will rekt anything.

Something Ive noticed about dark crusade is that the campaign is inconsistant, the ai would be completely different in some maps for no reason.

Morriah coast is an example, it would say that the AI is using basic infantry but then you'll see them chug out baneblades and daemon princes, wtf.

*cough*
That's why you use the map resources to build Advance Bases if you have the ability or a Garrison?

Whilst it was a change the fact that in map bases you built went away was a decent balance change IMHO. Garrison was for all purposes useless on DC because the buildings you made were left behind. on SS it actually becomes vital/interesting to use

That being said...as for the topic why SS is considered inferior to DC? Air units were useless additions and wasn't as game changing as the balanced additional units when SS and WA came out. (heck it even ruined some units... making the Scarabs from the Tomb Spyder pretty much useless) and the campaign faction abilities were unbalanced and the campaign just went on a tad bit too long

The thing that annoys me about SS is that in DC, the game remebered what you had last time. If you took the time, captured all relics and strategic points, built backup bases, they were still there when you had to defend your territory. SS, Start again. I could understand that happening on a hard mode. That and having to do a capture critical to get off your planet, and another to land on a new one. By all means have them as territories, but they should have been scattered.

The Devs definitely decided on removing the built bases on attack, because it made it too easy, and ended up having no planetary requisition spent on defense. It also made the Ork stronghold ability extremely valueble.

I think the only reason players would get annoyed of one planet is because different locations, same planet, while it looks different the background and are may stay the same.
