Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm

A Question of Unification (mod)
o k soooooo for background, i got into dark crusade months as well as 40K in general this year, been loving the game and franchise ever since, and cannot get enough of it but i was sad to find out that tyranids were not a playable race (although i do enjoy me some Chaos and Orks). i've heard that this rendition of the game has a mod dubbed "Unification mod" which adds a metric ton of races too the game including my favs the tyranids so i have some questions about unification.

1) how big is the mod?. 2) is it worth buying soul storm to play it?. 3) would me having unification screw with dark crusade online if they are seperate on steam?, as i've heard having mods will mess up your online. 4) and finally, if i get this mod, is there a means to practice whatever race i feel like?.

1) The entire Unification package (all 4 parts, plus installer, plus music) is around 16 gigabytes of compressed files.

3) Dark Crusade and Soulstorm are completely different games. Mods for one will not affect the other in any way.

4) You can Skirmish vs AI in custom games, but that's as close as you'll get to a "practice mode".

that's smaller then i thought it'd be not gonna lie, glad to know it won't screw up my dark crusade as well. might be worth the purchase, thanks for the help. i'ma look into the mod >:3

1) Expect it to be bigger with 7.0 as that's a huge update. Currently 80gb uncompressed... poor ssd.
2) Yes as it's often £3, full disclosure - undeniably biased.
3) Absolutely not. You run mods via a launcher so even in SS you can have any other mods you fancy
4) Uni has decent AI, debug mode and things like PvE survival mode.

uhhhhhhh i can handle 16 gigs, idk if my computer can handle 7.0 being 80 gigs tho, that's a huge put off if that ends up actually being 80 gigs

It won't - mine is uncompressed. Maybe 20gb? Hard to say until it's crunched up, but it's adding a lot of content.

I think it will be the biggest addition that we will do.

You need ~25gb of space for Unification.

--UNIFICATION (Unification_Bugfix folder) 24.7 Gig installed
Going to need easily 17.0 gig more to accommidate the download files,
so easily 41 gig hard drive space required.
Better have 50-60 gig free just because...
One can delete the download files or archive them elsewhere.

Yes, I freed up hard drive space for this.

80 gig for 7.0, ?!?
time to trim fat and some meat with it
I hope load times have improved, once installed its installed but load times are there always

I think Fuggles mean that his 7.0 is "unpacked". The vanilla game also has it's assets packed. If they weren't it would probably go to 3 or 4 times the size.

An example is Medieval 2 Total War. 4-5 GB as is, but if you use the unpacker to mod the game it goes for around 15 GB easily.
