I'm not an expert and don't know much on coding, programming, or other technical skills related to this. Maybe someone with more knowledge than I can answer better. But a couple things:

1) If you can play the game for 10 minutes I don't think you have any installation errors. If you're not sure there is usually a mod install video on Youtube with updates on the latest instructions, as you may already know. But if there was an installation error I would think the game wouldn't start or would crash very quickly.

2) Sometimes the Temp Folder can get "full", so to speak. Clear it out to free up space allocated to that folder and it can sometimes fix issues related to lack of space errors in the Temp folder. I've seen this before with other old games. This is the Temp folder somewhere on your hard drive (don't remember where, maybe do an online search on where it's found). This Temp folder is not in your game files. It's also not the Temp folder in the Steam folder.

There should be a "clear cache" option, or something similar, for the Temp folder. Or just delete stuff in there. There shouldn't be anything in that folder that will be lost by clearing it out...it should all be temporary files like website tracking cookies, partial/incomplete downloads, other things like that.

Some questions related to the DOW Mod Manager:

3) Are you launching Ultimate Apocalypse through the latest version of the DOW Mod Manager?

If yes:

4) Did you try the "Check for errors" button at the top center of the mod manager? That should check the mod files for obvious errors. It can't find complex errors or problems outside the mod files, however.

5) Do you LAA active? There's a "Toggle LAA" button in the top center of the mod manager, you will see green writing saying "Soulstorm.exe: LAA Active" (or Inactive) and "GraphicsConfig.exe: LAA Active".

  • LAA will allocate more RAM to the game. This will reduce crashes, improve performance, and solve some other problems. DOW is an old game designed for a time when computers had far, far less RAM and caps it. LAA gets around that to help solve lots of problems. You should have it "active" unless you see problems, then try turning it off and see if that fixes things.
6) Do you have "High Res Textures" turned on (High Resolution textures for graphics)? This is known to cause crashes as the number of units increases, usually with more players/opponents.

You can find the "High Res Textures" option by selecting "Settings" at the top of the mod manager. Click the "Video" tab of the Settings Manager, the top right should be the "High Res Textures" box with a warning written in red next to the box.

  • Note: This is different than the "force high poly" option on the main mod manager screen that's listed under "Advanced Start Options" on the top left of the screen. That option should be safe to be turned on, I always have it on with no crashes.
