Hi there guys.

I was hoping that you could help me with getting some of my favourite games
to run via Steam on Linux. I've got a real urge to replay DOW (Dawn Of War)
on my Linux box, and I'm not having much joy ATM.

Background:
I'm trying to get (all versions) of Dawn Of War to install and run properly
I bought these from steam directly (as part of an offer, back in Jan 2016)

These games include:
Dawn Of War (Game of the year edition)
Dawn Of War: Winter Assault
Dawn Of War: Dark Crusade
Dawn Of War: Soulstorm


The games do appear to install properly (the game install completes
and they are showing in the hidden (.steam) dir on my hdd).

However, whenever I try to run/launch the games (either from within the steam client,
or from the desktop icons), the games attempt to run,
Then after approx 30-60 secs, the dialoge box will dissapear, and the steam app menu
appears (again, letting you click on the start game icon).
It never gets any further than that.
I've tried all 4 games, with the exact same result.
There is no error messages show when the game fails to lauch either, which is frustrating.

Issue(s) and questions:
1. I Cant get CD keys to show / download for any of the above games
from within the steam (CD dialoge box).

1.1. Do I need to obtian the CD keys from steam in order for the game to run ?

2. What version of Proton do I need to use, to play these games ?

3. I've upgraded the steam client to the newest version

4. I've validated each game successfully (with the excetpion of the original DOW).
However I'm more interested in playing DC and SS for now.

4. Is there anyting else that I need to do, or am missing. To get these games to run ?

Here's how i got it working on some older hardware (almost same HW as OP+dedi GPU):

DoW not running:
To fix it, you should use proton version 4.xy (Possibly also works with other versions ^)
-i use 4.2-9/4.11-13 (have to use older version due to gpu not supporting vulkan)

Flickering mouse cursor:
To fix, go to SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Dawn of War Soulstorm/Drivers/spdx9_config.txt
and replace allowhwcursor 1 with allowhwcursor 0

Crashes in Campaign mode:
To fix, enable the Large Address Aware tweak
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%
(can also add -nostartupmovies as the game’s launch options)

Currently running unification mod (manual install) with no issues other than i have to run at low settings due to said hardware. :D

For me it's running fine for campaign etc. However multiplayer will often crash with Out of Sync errors:

its much appreciated.

1. I managed to ge the game running via Proton version 3.7-8
This was for -
DOW - Dark Crusade
DOW - Soulstorm


2. @txomon
No I didn't experience anything similar to your issue.
However ATM, I've only played -
Campaign
Skirmish (against the AI)

I've not played any online multiplayer matches against any human opponents (yet).
