Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm

Sound cuts mid game, victory or exiting freezes everything
Pretty much the title, apologies if this is something that has been around for a while and has been fixed. I just can't seem to find anything that fixes this bug specifically.

It happens at varying times, I'll be anywhere from approx 15 - 45min into a SS campaign game and the sound will cut and I'll get nothing, dead silence, no effects, music, menu sounds, nothing. The game continues to play fine, I can save, but on victory (or loss I'm assuming) or quiting the game everything locks up. The game freezes, I can't alt-tab out, I can ctrl-alt-del for the Win10 options with no issues. Brining up task manager does tab to desktop but I still have the DoW pointer and cannot click or interact with anything. How I have been fixing it is selecting log-off from the ctrl-alt-del options then logging back in and restarting the game. Alt-F4 was doing nothing during lock up either.

I've downloaded and extracted the lastest bug fix mod (Soulstorm Bugfix Mod Version 1.56 - June 24th 2017) to the SS file in SteamApps by Kaskrin84 on moddb.com which has done nothing to fix this bug.

I've put sound channels and quality down to medium in game... nothing.

This is incredibly frustrating and is ruining what should otherwise be some enjoyable, timekilling gaming.

Please help if you can!

This seems to be a ram problem within soulstorm.

In the older versions, it randomly crashed on me and quit to desktop, but i started using the LAA patch and solved all the problems. Never had a crash anymore since then. The patch increases the ammount of ram allocation soulstorm can use.

Liked the idea but sadly it didn't fix it, the game doesn't crash when the sound dies, it crashes on victory or attempting to quit out of the game (whether that's back to desktop or menu).

I've been having an issue for sometime now where it's almost like my sound driver/card resets. Sound disappears for a second or two but then comes back. I've checked for updates on the drivers, they're all up to date, I can't work out what the problem is. :steamsad:

If that is the case, have you tried lowering the game sound volume in the game settings?

I think i had this problem happening to me (sound disapearing) only once. I never had again because i lowered the volume in the game settings.

I'm not an expert or anything, but i think the game sound is usually set to too loud and that might overwhelm the sound card, making it reset (i'm pretty sure they have this safety feature to prevent them from burning due to excessive amount of energy passing through.)

I use a pc amplifier for another needs and it does the same thing to my sound card if i amp too much.

Lower all the in-game volumes to half or less. It worked for me as well.
