Hurray found a bug!
Well, if you attack Imp Guard HQ and destroy all bases before the game tells you to, as secondary mission obj, the game will crash when the whole mission is over... So destroying the Sentinel and Tank bases before they become secondary obj will cause the game to crash.

Word of advice, just don't do the campaign mode! Its extremely not worth the hassle of playing it to try and have fun, if anything you're just gonna be annoyed with it especially when your territories get attacks and have to rebuild your entire base from scratch compared to dark crusade where everything you built remains.

i just play the campaign just for the heck of it. Still this type of issue shouldn't exist in a game this old? I'd have thought they would have patched it by now?

It wasn't even Relic that made the game, that went to Ironlore who developed it and they rushed the ever ♥♥♥♥ out of it.

Funny, as soon as it happened to me I found this lel.
Yea destroyed all the baneblade production bases, and after destroying the Mars Pattern Factory I got a epic Fatal Scar Error.
Ultimate Apocalypse Campaign btw

Playing the campaign with mods active will almost always break the Stronghold missions. IIRC, you have to copy the "movies" folder from the base Soulstorm directory to the "movies" folder in your mod directory.

That's assuming the mod itself doesn't simply break the game (which is why Ultimate Apocalypse disables the campaign by default).

To the OP, what you experienced isn't a "bug", per se; you broke the mission's script by purposefully ignoring your objectives and performing scripted tasks out of order. Going through the Stronghold missions step-by-step will help you avoid those Fatal Scar crashes in the future.

Also, as a general rule, you should download and activate the Community Bugfix mod (or the Unification Mod which I believe integrates it) to avoid the majority of bugs that were in this game after development.

Same happens in the Tau stronghold mission if you conquer the cannon before the game tells you and then the mission is over -> crash.

The mission scripting in the game is extremely poor: They don't check whether a condition has already been achieved or not but just blatantly assume things and once that goes wrong: error.
It's like in the Sisters of Battle stronghold mission and the "destroy the air factories" objective: Even if those have already been destroyed there's a commander yell, "There are their factories. Level them.".

Or when you play the Dark Eldar stronghold mission and either construct your HQ where you started instead where you're supposed to or start building one HQ where you're supposed to which you never complete and a 2nd one that you complete: The AI will never activate. The mission scripting is mostly on a level you'd expect from fan-made content of someone with mediocre experience that does the scripts right but doesn't assure the circumstances are met under which they should activate.

i played it with no mods. if you don't let the game open up more than 2 production sites for the baneblade parts, it will crash after you finish that mission. I held back and destroyed the 2 active sites and then did the rest. At that point the mission finished no problem.

basically what Dasakamov said. i waited a bit more and then had no problems.

I think I have the bugfix one which has "Dawn of Skirmish" intergrated with it and I've basically been using the mod for just that the skirmish modes because that's more fun than the campaign that's pretty much boring to its very core not to mention doesn't make a lot of sense why some of the factions are fighting each other like in the case of the imperial guard and space marines, in soulstorm they have literally zero reason to be fighting each other compared to the sisters of battle who think they are being corrupted by the warp storm.
