- Yes, the Eldar are that arrogant and uncaring about the fates of the other races. This is the go-to explanation for any Eldar involvement conflict that doesn't make any pragmatic sense.
- They DO issue the warning, but the Imperium don't listen to them because of their good old-fashioned racism. Never in the history of ever has ignoring Eldar warnings worked out well for the Imperium.
In either case, the reason in real life (so far as I could tell) is that the writers over at Relic thought the Eldar are arseholes and deserve to lose horribly at every turn. Right, because the Imperium don't match the description of arseholes too.
I agree.
Very few writers seem to be able to write good stories that doesnt invole imperium curbstomping everything.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MostWritersAreHuman
1. The Eldar are just as racist as the imperium and if they believe that the death of a few dozen human worlds can save the lives of five Eldar (not worlds, individual no-name Eldar) down the line, they take it.
2. The Eldar have the odd belief many "elf" races do that they are indisputably the best thing in existence; thus a Tyranid hive fleet approaching a sector as several tomb-worlds awaken while a WAAAGH! is building and Khorne just turned a planet inside-out to use as a chalice for the coming bloodbath is all considered beneath their full attention or care.
3. The Eldar are actually generally renowned as an entire race of massive screw-ups in-lore. They consistently make terrible decisions, and are one of the main reasons the setting is as screwed up as it is.
4. Eldar are massive ♥♥♥♥♥
When in doubt of someone's loyalites it's better to kill them to be sure.
That's just the way the imperium works.
This is one part of the truth.
The Craftworld Eldar are basically the equivalent of monks behaving in a manner that they believe will protect them from Slaneesh. They're not so much good as they are trying to save their own skin.
The rest of the Eldar just moved into the Webway where old Slaneesh couldn't reach them, and went about their business as normal.
The dark eldar are the real eldar in the same way criminals are the real humans.
Eldar sociaty collapsed and the crafworld eldar are the sane once's who fled before ♥♥♥♥♥ hit the fan.
But the majority of the Eldar race had long since become part of the Cults of Pleasure. The Dark Eldar.
People got lazy and complaicent before they destroyed themself.
The only difference is that the dark eldar didnt just screw themself but everyone else awhile.
Except that usually a fall of an empire doesn't give birth to a god-like entity that will eat the souls of the dead of said empire and continue to do so until the race is extinct..
Back on topic, because Eldar don't care about other races, they live to protect their craftworlds. They don't care if their are Tyranids, Greenskins or Tau, and all they want is to eradicate lesser species that threaten them.
Besides, the ones who called exterminatus upon Typhon primaris were the Space marines, commanded by Captain Gabriel Angelos himself, the Eldar were just fiddling around the whole time and as always, they were the coolest, but didn't get ♥♥♥♥ done.
To whomever is making DoW 3: Please, don't make another ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Space Marine campaign, you only get more and more people to pirate the game! And don't make yet another linear storyline where you just change factions, like Retribution, make an open map and progress through it, like Dark Crusade or Soulstorm, where I actually had fun playing the game over and over!
Oh, and no "last stand DLC". That was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
