Differences between Epistory and Nanotale
Nanotale is not a sequel to Epistory. It features new game mechanics, a deeper story, new characters, NPCs, new art direction and a richer lore. Generally speaking, Nanotale is leaning more towards what one can find in a RPG.

That said, both Epistory and Nanotale are Typing Chronicles games and they share a common DNA:

  • Core typing mechanics
  • Atmospheric adventure
  • Mix of exploration, puzzles and intense battles
  • Strong narrative
  • Female protagonist
  • Bold and (we hope) beautiful art direction
  • Ode to Fox Riders

When it comes down to typing being the core mechanic, if Epistory was our version 1.0, Nanotale is our 2.0.

Below, you will find a more detailed breakdown of the mechanics we improved in Nanotale.

WHAT IS CHANGING

  • You can move during battles: While you move, enemies will move in slow motion (after upgrades), giving you the time to place yourself tactically.
  • No instant death: you lose life when an enemy attacks you and can refill your life gauge by opening a health plant.
  • Mana: Your new powers consume mana, the game features many ways to recover it easily.
  • Boss battles at the end of each biome.
  • The Fox is part of the story, not just a mount anymore. It even has its own powers/abilities.
  • The experience system and upgrades have been improved.
  • The game map has been improved.
  • You can compose your spells by typing keywords in real time. You choose a spell and add a shape and/or intensity to it.
  • Rosalind is your new main character and narrator, she writes her observations in her book.
  • No more open central “hub” to access linear “dungeons”. There is one unique world (split in different biomes) that becomes more open as you explore it.
  • No more ice puzzles, or any puzzle based on movement skills. We promise.
  • You’ll meet NPCs to talk with, giving you quests or hints.
  • Different kinds of enemies with their own abilities/behaviours.
  • New art style
  • Korean added
  • More playtime

WHAT REMAINS

  • Localized in 10 languages (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese (BR), Russian, Polish, Chinese (Simpl), Japanese)
  • You are a fox rider. In Nanotale you still ride a great fox but only when you want to.
  • The dialogs and Rosalind notes about the lore have the same poetic and dream-like tone as Epistory’s narration.
  • Multiple keyboards support (Dvorak, BÉPO, AZERTY, QWERTY, QWERTZ, Workman, Colemak).
  • Joachim Neuville: We keep the same music composer as he did a wonderful job on Epistory.
  • Rachael Messer: We’ll keep the same voice actress.
