You can, however, now make rental houses on your own "home" property. Essentially, the mission was just a tutorial on how the rental process works (yeah, I know; it's not terribly clear that's the case. Took me a moment, too).
Throw up a house on your land and see how you go. :)
Ah thank you, I found that really confusing as I assumed you could go back to the one I built!!! Think that needs to be made clearer, as I had no idea I could rent properties on my own land. Makes sense though in it's way!!!
Thanks again :)
You'd be surprised how much you can fit on the largest plot. I have 11 rentals (ranging from 4 - 10 squares--the squares don't all have to be on the ground floor to count), 2 /large/ castle courtyards, a stable, 4 medieval strip-farms, the 2 buildings you get with the game, a tavern and lots of small gardens/"wells"/animal enclosures and still have a stack of space left over.
Bad screenshots to show what I mean:

I could easily fit another 6-7 properties inside the exterior courtyard alone to rent out, along the walls and whatnot. This game has some issues, but space is not one of them. :)
You'd have to have a /really/ large castle to fill the last lot though. I could fit a 12 x 16 great hall in the second wallspace with room to spare (once the ability to put down a floor with no holes in it is available, I will do just that), and once you have the walls up, that's pretty large. I'd also have room for an armoury and whatnot, and that's before I even go to the forecourt.
You're welcome. <3
This game has so much potential. I cannot wait to see what they add. We were already given 3 more roof pieces in 1.01. [Fingers crossed for that hole-less wood floor and some hay pieces next ;) ]
BTW do you know where I can find housing designs? I want to keep in with the medieval theme but want to try to work out these blocks but not sure how to put it together.....
If you google "medieval floor plans" you can find some nice images to work off. :)
I hope they let us mix house and castle pieces one day. [HINT, devs].
Second that!!! Very restricting at the moment :( Especially castle floors...
But yet I will have to do some study or research I think into medieval design houses, or even minecraft medieval styles then i can transpose the designs across here hopefully.
It is also understanding the renters requirements as well. Right now I stuff up my game I was experimenting with the blocks so i didnt save it for that reason and it saved it anyhow and now i have blocks scattered and 50k blown on it as well......
