I see a lot of people saying the game is dead, and as a loser who spends a lot of time in the MGI discord there are a few things I feel the need to clarify.

Q) Is the game dead?
A) The actual game "MGI prologue" itself is "finished". A sequel is to be continued by a full dev team in the future. Say what you want about this, but that's what I have heard. As of right now, Redamz is making a set of 3 Visual Novels to a) explain the events leading up to MGI and b) fund the hiring of an entire proper developer team. The games however will not be what you expect; they will be prequels to MGI not set on the island (except the third one), and they will not involve any sex scenes. Additionally, the word “Visual Novel” is not entirely accurate as the games will be 3D with allegedly much better graphics than MGI. However, as a compromise, Redamz has hinted that he may make the models available for non-commercial use so you can make all the H-scenes you want.
I know people have donated to the Patreon in the past expecting a fully-fledged hentai game, but this is just what has happened. All I am doing is relaying the information.

Q) What can we expect?
A) From what I've seen, it looks like we will be getting 3 VN's set out as dating simulators, running in a brand new engine (Unreal engine). They will focus mainly on narrative and visuals. The VN's will focus on the new character (mentioned below), Shuri, Xue, and other ones yet to be revealed. Redamz has been hesitant to show progress especially due to his desire to polish the environments to near perfection - he does not want to show a new shiny model floating in a black void.

Q) Is the steam release the final game before these Visual Novels?
A) If you join the MGI discord, in the #updates tab there is the "patreon release" to download for free. The game was booted off patreon a while ago because they didn't like it, so Redamz gave them the finger and went his own way. This patreon release has chapter 4; the steam release only goes up to chapter 3. However, Redamz considers chapter 4 to be "an extra bonus that was meant to be part of a continuation that's no more".

Q) Will the new VN's have old characters in them? Voice acting?
A) There will be a new character, a human named Luna, but yes other characters will be making a return. Voice acting is unlikely as it is a lot of extra work.

Q) Ok prick, when are the new games coming out?
A) Redamz said "with luck, should be ready in a year" but of course it could be longer. He has hinted at the experimental nature of these games, and I don't have a clue what he means by that.

Q) So, no head?
A) If things go to plan, Redamz has hinted that once these VN's are released and he makes enough money from them, he may hire an entire dev team to make a fully-fledged game set in Abyss. Also, these VN's are critical to understanding the events of MGI. AI's story begins the future; these VN's give us the past.

Please take what I say with a grain of salt, as new information is constantly being released.

P.s. yes I understand this sounds dodgy, but I reiterate that this is just what I know. I'm also rather disappointed we aren't getting a direct sequel, but there's nothing I can do about it. At least we are getting something.


NEW YEARS UPDATE -
"I've already talked about the plans ahead and what I've been working on in discussion channel, but I'll post it here, hopefully in the easiest way possible to understand what's going on:

The story started in MGI Prologue will be expanded upon on different games that I've been working on.
MGI prologue was becoming too dated and development taking too long, so I decided to cut my losses and move the story to smaller, more manageable games.

The core story has been mostly unadulterated, but not all characters will get as much focus as it was originally intended, at least for now.

Love;Again are visual novels focused on dating and ecchi rather than straight up hentai.
MGI Saga is focused on world building and tries to be more of a game than the other entries in the series.

I understand not everyone will like these changes, but it is what it is.

People that supported on patreon will get something to be decided when the games release to compensate for the fact that MGI ended up being a free game for everyone.

Finally, I'll leave an infographic of the upcoming projects. I'll not attempt to give any release dates, but as of now, there's good progress on Memories and MGI Saga. They are not huge games, I'm playing to the strength of each engine this time around, I think and hope they'll be very enjoyable for most of you. In short =

a) zero progress on the actual MGI game since v.0.44.3 in 2020 (still stuck in Chapter 4 with missing scenes).

b) Red intends to release a trio of non-H prequel VNs that will be sold as separate titles. He is permanently abandoning all future erotic content because he now finds it tedious to create.

c) If work on the main MGI story ever resumes, it will be years from now pending the sales from the VNs, even though Red claimed that there was enough money from Patreon to finish the game. Plus, as already stated, there will be no further H-content.

d) Patreon supporters who collectively pledged tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars for a completed ero-fantasy rpg are screwed.

Even the senior Discord moderator couldn't hide their disappointment = "why don't you just add NSFW patch like most visual novels like Nekopara and have a talented animator do the scenes? The experience would be incomplete otherwise in my eyes... Well, it's your game and story...But you would do your audience a disservice too."

Dude literally made enough money off patreon to not need to work for years. He then stops working on the game he made all the money off, starts working on ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ VN like 2% of the fans want and expects people to give him more money for them? with still no information on when he will finish MGI, this game is dead, move on. Far too many people got rich off a good idea with a proof of concept and didn't deliver in the 2010s

How much you want to bet he spent the majority of his MGI crowdfunding dollars on Genshin Impact? That seems like the obvious answer to all of this to me.

Bail on the difficult original project and whip up some quick VNs. He'll probably get some monies from his dwindling discord loyalists, too.

This is honestly so disappointing to read, you can read most discussions in the discord being reluctant about his decisions moving forward but its his property and its not like the dude has been taking peoples money since the last update after Patreon made him quit crowdfunding.

We aren't owned anything at this point, unless you were a Patreon before it got canned, but honestly we can just go on with our lives and if it comes out then it comes out, not going to lose sleep over a porn game being abandoned.

We're here on Steam and when you play this game [Monster Girl Island - prologue] The game ultimately enters into a idle loop where you can go to sleep, run around with nothing to do, go to sleep again and the cycle continues. The game we on Steam have is everything BUT finished. I'm also very interested to know exactly what the supposed finished game contains, because I see smoke and smell the fire from a hot-burning lie from the dev.
Also, I dont give a flying fck where the dev may or may not have posted another version of the game. This is Steam and our concern as players is the status of the game on Steam. And whatever IS on steam is very much unfinished and very much dead. I'm not even going to adress the blatant "a dev-team will make sequel" or "dev is making VNs" as if that is supposed to excuse the abandonment.

I'll gather these together because this has effectively nothing to do with the game that we here on Steam are interested in with regards to its status. It boggles my mind that these VNs are supposed to be some redeeming act for the abandonment of MGI itself. And from what I read between the lines the reasoning behind it is basically that the Dev couldn't be bothered to work on the 3D open world game. If the guy gets ♥♥♥♥ on, then he deserves it.
