Maybe it's just me...
But why in Anime and VNs do the male protagonists never have guts; maybe it's an American thing, but a guy should have a pair, not act like a neutered dog.

I refunded the game, not kidding. This trope is getting really annoying.

Art is good and all, not disappointed there. But didn't get this to be irritated.

You're playing a VISUAL NOVEL with a bubblegum aesthetic about a bunch of dweebs who work at an indie game studio and spend the opening fifteen minutes posting on a 4chan clone, and you're annoyed the player character doesn't have "guts?"

Bud, I went to college for game design. I can assure you I had never met another indie developer who lacked a pair 100% of the time. Sure some were reclusive, but even then they had the guts to stand up for themselves.

I'm not a fan of the trope, it's annoying.

I'm a programmer, so not exactly the same, but I went to school with a lot of people who were too afraid to talk to girls. I'd say both of us suffer from sample bias.

If I'm being honest dude, judging a character by whether or not they "have a pair" makes you sound like you don't have a pair. Plus, the generalization that you're making that VN/anime characters are spineless is just flat out unfounded. Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Berserk, and on an on in terms of anime.

In terms of Visual Novels:
Umineko When They Cry
G Senjou No Maou
Grisaia Trilogy
Zero Escape Trilogy
Phoenix Wright
Kara No Shoujo
Steins;Gate

All feature protagonists who "stand up for themselves."

This is a game about a certain subculture. Just because it doesn't reflect upon your experiences going to college for game design doesn't really mean anything. Saying you're this irritated that the main character acts the way he does, and then acting like that's some reflection of the entire medium, just makes you sound like you have anger issues or something.

Kid, go home. You're immaturity is showing.

Thinking you're smart by saying if you hate something you must be in denial. Yea, real creative man. It's not like an insult has ever pushed a conversation forward. Or maybe it just derails the entire conversation. You sound like you spend too much time on twitter.

Now, you want to have an honest talk or do you want to act like a child?
Because I can continue to treat you like one if that's how you prefer to act.

Overlooking your own response which is 100% vent, at least the other person gave you reasons why they thought your assessment might be subjective, even if you didn't like them insinuating you being in denial... twice; which to be frank, is something your reply didn't help you with.

Then again, it's your own thread.

Again, you kids can go back to twitter if you can't have an honest conversation.
It's not like insults derail conversations.

Besides it's called confidence, I don't have anything to prove by explaining myself to kids online.

You're absolutely right, you have nothing to prove to anyone.

You having so much confidence, in fact, that you resort to calling others kids disparagingly when they disagree with you, but whatever.

I'm pretty sure that even if the other guy was trying to be honest with their response, imo there was no honest conversation to begin with from the start. I know, i'm not even trying.

Then again, i'm having fun, otherwise i wouldn't have even considered writing this reply either, but all i can say is, again, it's your own thread, so i'll let you have the last word. :catjenny_px:

Let me be an oracle and predict that you will say something to the effect of "yeah sure whatever you say kid" in your reply, since i'm sure you will not miss the chance of writing one.

You really don't understand Irony do you? I was doing and describing the very thing that was being done under the impression it'd open some self awareness. My expectations should be lower.

Besides, why do you host a thread on the internet if you are going to call everyone "kids" and refuse to have a discussion with them? That is a logical paradox I am not willing to grasp. But,

Bud, you can't expect anyone to take you seriously can you? Your talking about the strongest nation on the globe. You can't be surprised when people from that culture find it confusing when people from another culture treat their men as submissive and weak in stories to be a virtue.

That's like calling a viking insecure. A very amusing sentiment at best.

I call people children who act like children, I'll have a discussion with those who choose to act like a mature adult.

You are showing, that you are not one of those people.

Like yourself? It is definitely

While you might not understand so yourself, you hosted a thread to make everyone know you are a part of the most controversial pseudo-nation on the Earth, and in doing so you aimed, subconsciously, at raising your own self-esteem. Pitiful. I beseech everyone else to ignore the existence of this thread. Because it actually does not.

Bud, you're trying to dig for an answer were it's pretty simple.
I took psych in college, and i can tell you exactly what i'm thinking.

I come from a western country, our stories present characters who are strong as a virtue. In VNs it is often the reverse and from my stand point it is belittling and unfit of the character. Thus i'm not a fan of the trope.

If I had not said where I am from, then it seems like a random thought opposed to a cultural bias.

You can try to denigrate my character as much as you like, but as an opinion piece. You can expect others to have their own views on it.

Also, rather than a character assassination. Why not ignore the post yourself then?

Comparing yourself to a Viking is the goofiest thing I've ever seen a person on the internet do. Congrats. You keep toting that you took "psych classes" in college as if that gives you any authority or self-awareness on how much of an idiot you've sounded like in every single reply to this thread. I'm revisiting it two weeks later and trying to figure out how someone could be so short-sighted as to literally make yourself into a caricature of an "American."

You are a clown, my man. And not even a very funny one.
