So from the reading, it can be assumed that this will be thoroughly dropped in favor of the new game they'll be making?

That's certainly how it looks to me - as is most people who've heard of this news, for that matter. The interview mentions that all of GrisGris has been and still are involved with the production of this new game, and they're the guys who've been writing/developing all the mainline entries ever since the first game, with Makoto Kedouin serving as the head writer. Makoto Kedouin was also the writer for Dead Patient. So if he's been involved in the production of this new Corpse Party game ever since it's inception, then what we have here is proof that Dead Patient, an already 10 year old game that hasn't had any meaningful updates to it's story since it's first chapter back in May 29th 2013 (I don't consider the extra chapter added to the Neues version, the one we got here on Steam, to be a meaningful update considering the extended amount of time this game has been in development, which is the sort of thing I find unacceptable even for small indie teams), has been effectively shafted in favor of a new game that has been explicitly stated that they're hoping to take the series to "the next level" with. Literally the only thing that they say that is NOT changing is the sound design the series is known for, while everything else is going to be changed up to separate it from previous entries.

In other words, they got big plans for where they want to take Corpse Party as a series, and apparently Dead Patient and whatever it was initially setting out to do isn't a part of that new vision they're pursuing, otherwise I think they would've mentioned some sort of new progress for Dead Patient, even if brief. I made a review on Dead Patient recently here on the game's store page where I go into more detail about my issues with all of this, if anyone is interested in reading it - I don't think repeating everything I said in it in this thread is necessary since anyone can go and read it. But long story short, I've personally seen enough from the devs to know that Dead Patient isn't, and hasn't been on their priority list for a long time, and it's looking like it's going to stay that way indefinitely. So out of protest over this entire situation I've decided to just start telling anyone I know who may be interested in the Corpse Party series to not buy this game and just stick to the Heavenly Host saga, since all they'd be doing is buying a game that the devs have demonstrably shown at this point to have no desire to continue working on.

I'm just hoping that this new game they're working on will at least be comparable in quality to the first game, otherwise I'm going to be even more irked by all of this than I already am.

I am bad with words but I kind of feel the exact same way. It is a shame but its the undeniable truth given what is presented to us by team grisgris.

It truly is a shame. I really wanted to see where the story in this game would go, even if I knew full well that certain story baggage from Blood Drive was going to factor into everything somehow. I'm not a fan of how Blood Drive ended the Heavenly Host saga by any stretch of the imagination, and the knowledge that both elements from its story and the survivors from the previous saga were going to gradually return for Dead Patient made it quite clear to me that Blood Drive's events were going to have long-reaching consequences on future events going forward, even despite Dead Patient's marketing of itself as a wholly new story that new fans could jump into without having to be familiar with any of the previous chronological entries in the series. I won't go into too much detail about it here since it's not relevant, but despite the apprehension I had over the idea of Blood Drive's story elements eventually returning in Dead Patient, I still had hope that Dead Patient overall would be a step in a better direction that would bring the series closer to it's roots while still trying some new ideas to keep itself feeling fresh and interesting. Redeeming qualities to help mitigate the damage other entries had done to the franchise as a whole.

But alas, those hopes I've had for Dead Patient have been utterly dashed at this point, and now I've got to place my hopes in this new game they're making and that it will be the entry to give the series the breath of fresh air it needs to become relevant again. It would help to see them make an official announcement on the thing sometime soon and actually see some of whatever they're working on so we can at least have some idea of what we might be getting.

I will say this, though, just on the off-chance that somebody that might be in any way affiliated with the publishers/developers of this upcoming game might end up reading this and is trying to gauge consumer feedback:

My patience has its limits, and everything that you've been doing with the entire franchise, not just Dead Patient, has gradually left a sour taste in my mouth, and as a result it's becoming harder and harder for me to continue supporting you. I'm losing confidence in your ability to deliver products worth purchasing, especially in regards to Corpse Party. The sheer disregard that Dead Patient has been shown is only the latest nail in the proverbial coffin for me as far as my continued support for Corpse Party as a franchise is concerned. I must stress, I am quite bitter over the already 10-year-old Dead Patient being quietly shafted in favor of a wholly different entry, and I'm not going to let you guys live this down regardless of the quality of this other game you're deciding to focus your attention on. Your track record of further expanding the story within the Heavenly Host saga without doing anything to advance the franchise past that point is something I'm starting to grow weary of, and it shows me a lack of confidence on your part to try anything new without having the Heavenly Host games, especially the first one, to fall back on.

Unless Darkness Distortion doesn't further expand upon the Heavenly Host saga and does try to take the series story forward, in which case I will give credit where it's due even if it's not in the direction I would've originally wanted you to take the series in. But I guess that's a judgement I will have to reserve until I actually see whatever it is you're making with this new game. But even if you do decide to fall back on the Heavenly Host saga yet again, I'd be willing to largely look past that as long as you all make something with Darkness Distortion that fans of the series will truly find special. It would certainly do something to help soften the blow of losing Dead Patient in my book, even if I'll always look back on Dead Patient and think to myself every so often on what could've, what maybe should've, been - with all the depressed, bitter feelings that entails. I'm willing to give you guys one last chance with this new game you're currently making, but at this point that's all you're getting - just one last chance. I love Corpse Party, but I won't continue to support it's mishandling forever, whether it be with whatever you tried to do with the story with Hysteric Birthday and Blood Drive, or with abandoning entries like Dead Patient. There's only so much of this I can take before I decide to say, "enough is enough", close my wallet to you guys, turn around and move on to greener pastures, and not look back.

None of this is pleasant for me to say, but it all needs to be said, and I'm speaking from the heart.

Hrm. Then I will be appreciative of them at least communicating this, as opposed to their spotty communication concerning this game. May their new venture make up for the ball they dropped with this one.

There seems to be an announcement of another Corpse Party game being released in an interview with the DEV of the franchise. Just google "New Corpse Party game 2023"
