Xbox controller support?

Just rebought this. Still have the original somewhere, but this way it's on steam and easy to access. Loved the original. Will miss shared stash though (i didn't trade or play multiplayer much, but I like to have multiple chars and swap gear between them).

Anyway, back when this game came out, i didn't have a controller for my pc and just used keyboard and mouse for everything. I'm.....lazier?....I don't know...just used to a controller now.....and was wondering if you can use one in HL. I'll make do if not, but would prefer to set it up with my xbox controller if possible..

You can configure a controller setup for any game on Steam now with the Steam controller config, right click game in library, edit Steam controller configuration and map your buttons to the corresponding keys.
Hellgate has a lot of inputs so a controller may not be the best option

Probably could tweak it but works for me. Actions mapped to face buttons (1,2,3) then LB and RB act as shift and ctrl so I can set my action bar to 1,2,3,S1,S2,S3,C1,C2,C3.

The game doesn't have analog movement so that's always going to be something to get used to but other than that it's been working fine for me. Though I play next to my keyboard and mouse so I can use that for inventory management.

You can map WASD and mouse movement to the Analog sticks and it works perfectly.

I am pretty happy with the Controller Companion Profile I put together and it will be up for the public shortly.

Yeah I have that set on my joystick but it feels unresponsive sometimes. I've done this with other games before with no issue but for some reason the movement in this game feels just a bit off, I feel like I just need to constantly tweak it. I've gotten used to it but I feel like movement towards the outer edge of the joystick range isn't as responsive. Hard for me to put it into words. Like if I do full circles on the outer edge, the character more often than not doesn't move in an octagon 8 movement path but just moves in a square.

That's because movement in HGL is only WASD so you can only move in 4 directions. Just hold a direction and use right stick to steer and it feels fine.
