Losing save file

Ok, suddenly weird problem. I was doing quest in act 4, when suddenly in exospector, i cant portal back to town.

Then I quit game to menu so I can start back in town. But when i was quickly press on my character, it restarted back to tutorial.
Assuming that I might clicked on creating new character, so i go back to main menu.

BAM! My level 23 character is GONE.
I have problems with gameplay of this game, but this effectively kill my excitement for good.

So either there was some bug or the character deletion was done way too quick that I didnt realized.
I never saw any character creation, so Im positive that my character savefile might corrupted that restart me back to level 1 / tutorial.

I just double check it, it freaking same character as i used that same name.
But instead of level 23 engineer, im now level 1 blade master back in tutorial

Maybe someone could share a save file with you? I'm nowhere near in level or Act myself but maybe someone here is. I wonder if a new save file with your name/look could then be merged with the other person's to at least get you somewhere near to how you were.

nah, i dont care anymore. already uninstall it.
i probably will wait for abit more professional bugfix and content update.

the game left so much sour taste.
pretty much lost about 15 hours of progress (not much but still).
too repetitive for my taste as well.

i know this is a bad option but you can use some program
and get this level back like a cheat programm but it's not a good option bcs you have a chance to corrupt your save ofc.

That wouldn't help with level appropriate weapons/armour though would it?

The only success I had was renaming a original save file also changes the name in game. Maybe there's a unique identifier in the file somewhere. It's all in code/unreadable in notepad so I could do no more.

The best option imo is to try getting a similar or slightly earlier genuine save file as close in appearance as you can then renaming the file. You can reskill in game cheaply enough.

It's known the SP version of Hellgate can lose your save.
But you still have a chance to recover it.

Windows 7, the save folder location is :
"C:\Users\User Name\Documents\My Games\Hellgate\Save\Singleplayer\"

Savegames are "CharacterName.hg1"
Folder with "CharacterName" is just for the game to store info on dynamic maps. nothing useful here.

IF you can see another file with your "CharacterName" but with a different extension then this file is a temp savegame for that character.
Just rename the extension into ".hg1"
See if your lost character is back.


Other things:
* With this version of game, you can change the "CharacterName", in-game, you will see the change.
* You can move the savegames while the game is running.
Get back to character screen to refresh and load.

I have had issue before thats why i got \Documents\My Games\Hellgate\Save and make a back up aso, I would also like to suggest Make sure to right click save folder and turn off read only thing it was messing up my saves at first.
