Hellgate higher quality textures / HD cinematics / Visual effects
Steam version of Hellgate London uses low quality textures, disabled visual effects and low quality cinematics and these are higher quality textures, re-enabled visual effects and HD version of cinematics.


Before using any of the modification make a backup from your character saves and game files. Modifications should not effect game other than visually, but you never know.

Btw. If you go to C:\Users\Sompero\Documents\My Games\Hellgate\Settings and open it in notepad search <fGammaPower>1.00</fGammaPower> and change it to 1.00. Original game used 1.00 by default, but in this game it was changed some reason 1.15. Higher gamma value makes the game washed out.

I have updated HD textures compared to my old release.

I have been testing texture pack and i havent found any problems (dont expect 1fps bug to go away, because most likely wont). Those files are .dds and M files so those wont break save files.

Dont ask how many different visual stuff it will restore because i dont have a clue (at least summoner minions have more effects). Modification can also break few visual effects. Its impossible to tell what is broken already without modification and with modification.

I have tested act 1 and act 5 cinematics triggers where it should be so rest of cinematics should also trigger. Files also contains HD quality main menu screen.

It works, but i have noticed random red portal in subway hubs. That is because main game file hellgate000.dat has test file entrys and those are "disabled" by removing .dds and MA file from .dat file i modded instead of removing entry in main file so when i made texture mod those .dds and MA files are included again. Those portals can be one time thing that goes away if you move away from hub or certain part of quest line is completed.

Doesnt break anything, because those are only visual things, but still. I can look if i can find those files and remove and upload again, but its kinda impossible to find because there tens of thousands of files inside modded files.

I can search using windows search for files, but without knowing files names that doesnt help. The portal thing isnt big issue and happens usually once per character and goes away . I rather spend my time exporting and creating patch for lighting, particles, dx, and rest of the stuff located in hellagte000.dat, but has been one huge time sink and if go back to editing textures i would spend that time try to force high textures for stuff currently loaded from low folder. Its easy copy paste high folder to low, but some of the stuff doest have high quality mesh so if i replace low dds with high dds things may and will break like texture not loading and even if there is high quality mesh game still can load low quality mesh and dds from hellgate000.dat. I really hope devs will give us proper high quality stuff with dx10 32bit or 64bit exe.

If you see random red portal inside quest hub dont worry those things should go away after a while and should not come back if you are using same character. Its only visual stuff.

Most likely after Tokyo content comes, but lets hope devs gives us proper high quality stuff, but i dont mind doing this again because i am doing it for personal use and if someone else want use i can upload those as well.

I didn't do the texture swap, just did this. Still looks much better, thanks lol.

opening cinematics works fine with my game. did you download all 4 files? and write over default ones? Opening cinematics should play after hambisoft t3 video before main menu. Not after you make character.
