The only reason why they are re-releasing it as SP game is because NO ONE PLAYED it online.
Global was dead.
So it's a good thing that they are making it available to play again for people who don't want MMO and just want to grind a bit and enjoy style and story.
It was available for years as free online game. No one cared. So stop pretending like multiplayer is important.
I'd liked some coop actually, but the game's multiplayer component was designed as MMO from a get go, so I don't think it's possible that easily.
Blixx had died when Activizzard owned it, and the guys that worked on the great Blizzard games were mad because they were being forced to make awful games that years later we learned about. So almost everybody from Blizzard North left and joined on this company.
Hellgate would be the reborn of the good old Diablo., while Diablo III development was just being announced. Then the game came out... and the hype turned into pure frustration. Everybody complained how the game was bugged, unpolished, lacking content, or just boring.
It was pure failure ever since.
So, don't come now complaining there's no online. It failed when it was FREE. It was shut down because nobody cared or played it.
Everyone at Flaghsip Studios went to Runic Games and made Torchlight II so no it wasn't a complete disaster. Flaghsip Studios failed because they tried to pay the publishing costs out-of-pocket. Flagship Studios was literally being run out of the home of the CEO Bill Roper at the time and they pretty much ran out of money.
