The original retail version still works fine and has restored multiplayer with mods if you can find it somewhere.

If you can find it somewhere being the operative. If it were that easy, no one would have even bothered with this version. I think the OP's hope for a patch for this version is, despite being unrealistic at this point, still far more realistic - for the majority of people - than finding the original release game.

It's rather sad that the lack of proper game preservation leaves us in situations like this, but that's how it is. I'm not much concerned about the multiplayer, just having a fully functional single player cleaned of game stopping or game breaking bugs is far more important for most games.

Add this to the pile of games that serve as a proper example of how important historical game preservation is, and why devs sitting on source code hinders the basic ability of a game to be enjoyed years later. The devs and publishers won't restore games like this, only enthusiast players will. Makes a good argument for forced public domain on properties with no possibility of extension after a certain span of time has passed rather than infinite rights extensions by publishers - tack forced release of source code at the point a game property goes public domain onto that.

The publishers may have no interest in game preservation, but the players certainly do.

The game can be bought online from used games and other websites that sell stuff, such as amazon and ebay.

The publishers have a definite 'no interest' in this game. They've not been seen for roughly a year now. Game has been removed from their website, and that was done in December '18.

Then of course, we have the torrent sites that are still distributing the original release, including key gens, for the sole purpose of letting people play on the privately hosted server.

The least realistic thing to happen is the developers fixing this game so everyone can play it.

I am getting a copy of the original game delivered next week myself.

The reason developers and publishers sit on licenses and IPs is so they can sell them later when and if they get into a pinch and need lots of money, really fast.
ty all for the input. saved me money and destroyed my hopes :P

You should still give it a try, just not this version. The 1FPS issue found in this build essentially makes this a broken product for a large number of the player base. Instead, give the "original" a go with the Revival mod.

Pick the game up for about $15 on Amazon or Ebay:
https://www.amazon.com/Hellgate-London-Pc/dp/B0015PYPUK/

Grab the Revival launcher:
https://www.hellgateaus.info/forum/hellgate-london-modification-downloads/the-'new'-launcher-(for-revival-1-5-and-up)/

Pick up the latest unofficial version of Hellgate Revival:
https://www.hellgateaus.info/forum/hellgate-london-modification-downloads/unofficial-revival-sp-modification-4-1/

Pickup ReShade and/or one of the HD graphic packs out there if you want to tinker with the visual quality beyond what the base game offers.

Enjoy!

Normally Im glad when a come comes out whats uncut has blood, gore,Zombies etc.But then I see much to late its a cash grab a fkn scam:steamsad: I hope Steam does take serious legal action against such scammers and products someday........

They just need a clear and strict policy to prevent developers from simply adding games and then abandon them. There should be a policy that say that you have to provide updates for the game and to remove the game from the store when/if they cannot/won't support it any more. If they can't abide by those rules, Valve should forcefully remove such titles from the store. They should do that now as well but they won't.

I've even considered moving to Epic Games Store for a while now because Valve just doesn't do anything to protect their customers and community against these shady developers and publishers.
The epic store is a piece of garbage and they've paid devs to stab their communities in the back, which is way worse than anything Valve has done. So you'd basically switch an inconvenience of having an open market store for a heavily moderated and censored store that barely lets any games in which means you'll miss out on a lot of games you might otherwise find and like with a company that is incredibly scummy and that is incredibly lazy with updating their store. In a year they've just about not done anything at all with making it better.
