No, you cannot, since Itch is a separate game store. However the question is; does it work now?
Another alternative method is to go back to your Tailor Tales folder on Steam, and browse to this location: Tailor Tales > www > img > pictures. Find the file "avatar.png" and rename it to something like "testavatar.png". Restart the game. The game will attempt to create a new avatar.png file, allowing you to play the game. However, anytime you make changes to your avatar, it will throw up that error again. But first, I'd like to know if this method works.
Edit: had to look up how to change permissions on Windows, but here's a step-by-step to give yourself access to the Steam folder that Tailor Tales is installed, so the game can read and write files.
1. Find the Tailor Tales folder (right click in Steam library, select properties, go to the local files tab, then click browse).
2. Right click the Tailor Tales folder, select properties.
3. Go to the Security tab.
4. In the "Group or users" area, find your own username that is currently using the computer, it's usually the bottom one.
5. Select this user and click "edit".
6. Select the same user again.
7. In the bottom box, tick on "full control".
8. Click apply.
9. Run Tailor Tales on Steam again to see if you get the same error or not.
But playing the Itch version worked? I need confirmation on this, because that does mean the issue lies with folder and user permission.
Edit: I think you should give full control for ALL users of that folder and try again.
If that still doesn't work, I invite you to the Tailor Tales Discord[discord.gg] so I can personally send you a file to test a new way of saving the avatar that can bypass the permissions. So please join the Discord and say hi in the #tech-support channel!
I recommend joining the Discord for further assistance, I can give you a file you can test out that should let you play the game despite not having administer rights to your Steam folder.
Thank you!

I'll look into this - it's likely because you have Plus turned on, that it's trying to show James' Plus CG but you don't own his DLC so it's confused.
In the meantime, you can replay the chapter and simply choose to skip the ending credits.
Off to play another route now!
