The original Townsmen was (and still was a pretty good game), but this is a remake, presumably done at the behest of THQ Nordic, which is more of a PC/Console company.

Oh yeah, it's got that juicy mobile game look to it... Like when McHammer first walked in to that Big record exec's office with them TIZIHT booty shorts on and said, "MAKE ME FAMOUS", and he started hammerin till that exec's office rained $$$$$, I think we all know the rest of that story...

So is that The original Townsmen was a mobile game?

MC Hammers biggest fan obviously has an analogy only he can understand.

There isn't any time-based aspects in this game. Previous ones had them but not this one - this is more like The Setters in that you need to build efficient structures so they all supply each other and keep the flow of goods going despite the weather and attacks you receive.

Technically though, this is a port of the Nintendo Switch version (which was a remaster of the 2016 PC version.

I tried the Android version and it was just awful with mobile F2P feel, in a version I supposedly bought.
So I really hope this version has been rebalanced and reworked in some way.
For me personally, I'm probably going to remain too sceptical of it at any price.

IMO they should really add a section on the store page that describes how this is reworked compared to the mobile version.

If you've ever payed the Settlers or the Tropico games, this like those. There's no timers, no waiting for things to get done (in a f2p aspect), no obtaining premium currency or things like that. It's a full resource management simulation game. So, building the right buildings in order to make the various resources and tools you need for other buildings to run and expand.

The only downside I had was the size of the maps, they are quite small compared to other games that are out there - so you do get a limited amount of space to work with. But you get used to it after a while and start to think more efficiently and strategically.

From reading the forum, this seems like a copy of the iOS version of townsman. there was reference to a girls desires scenario here and it’s in iOS version as well. It also has the whole xp system to unlock functionality and the prestige system. The xp level up to unlock functionality was pretty rough as it was added a few years later after release and really nerfed game play till built up levels and is not very well balanced.

I saw a post that can only upgrade buildings with prestige? In iOS version can use either resources or prestige. Prestige was townsman premium currency such as gems in other mobile games. in iOS version can gain prestige by completing tasks.

The iOS version doesn’t have timers either.

From the screenshots seems duplicate, except the walls around settlement. iOS doesn’t have walls. Oh the iOS version has the same walls as decorations. Must of been added when they added the scenario “Under Siege”

Steam version Prestige not saved across saves / games..

iOS prestige and xp is maintained across all saves and games.

This really seems almost exact copy of the free iOS game version.

I bought the paid one on iOS that cost less than $5 (Think it was $2.99) to remove the ads. The unlimited fast forward, and double xp is $3.99 each. So I guess that’s how they came up to $13 for steam on sale ...

I been searching to find out if this is a exact duplicate or how much new functionality added?

It really does seem like an exact port but with prestige nerf and who knows how much little tweaks could of been made to make more harder. Like tweaking resource cost, gathering amounts, villager carry capacity, storage capacity etc..

if they are selling prestige as premium currency like iOS this is just a cash grab, since steam version prestige can not be farmed across multiple games / saves.

Will the seaside dlc be added to iOS version?

This is the same game as the free iOS game the achievements are the same including the scenario names.

But looks like they nerfed a lot of the features to make harder. Possibly to force paid currency if prestige still exist for purchase.

The steam version doesn't have any in app purchases like prestige or unlimited fast forward.
That's why we had to rebalance the game a bit for the Steam version.

But also the Steam version has a completely reworked UI and controller support.

The seaside DLC is currently not planned to be added to the mobile version.
