Game looks deadish with peak at 1.2k 5 months ago down to like 100 now ontop of devs that abuse power in the game so good luck with that. Was gonna try the game again cause I remember when the game was still Dransik before it went down hill with AE.

There is a daily population of about 50~90 players on Ascension.
And a daily population of 75~110 on Legends.
No one really plays Heroes because that's Open PVP.

The maps aren't massive for the game in a sense, you'll always encounter 1 or 2 players when you go from places to places, most of them end up in LSP though since that's a hub.

Around beginner towns, you'll see many more players, but in further towns that are considered 'evil' alignment, you'll see none.

It's a fun game to kill time with even if you solo, you just benefit more from knowledge of the game than to scrape around progressing blindly.

----

The game is designed around a 'one stat' focus to progress in doing more damage, but as a result you are also limited to certain tradecraft skills since your success chances is based off of that stats, though higher skill can offset it a bit.

STR for instance can be used for blacksmithing, at low level expect to fail smelting ingots because your INT is too low, but with better armor that boosts stats up in the mid game, you can start to utilize it and succeed more. Or use blacksmith items and rings that buffs the skill.

STR - Melee
DEX - Ranged
INT - Magic

That's your 3 main focuses.

If you wanna start fresh, I'd suggestion Ascension, even though it does have PVP enabled like Heroes, there is a reputation system meaning you don't lose much if they tried to kill you (so long as you don't try to hit back first and run to the guards).

There are 'Safe' zones and 'No-Drop' zones, basically in Safe zones they can't target you I think, and in No-Drop zones you don't drop anything for them (not like they can loot it right away, there is a 5 minute grace period or whoever touches it gets wanted levels).

Also again, no one wants your low level loot if they are using high leveled ones.

I don't see any 'devs that abuse powers' in a sense, they are human so they get annoyed if you keep pestering them about stuff in a game engine that's very old and takes time to work on.

I would suggest you play it for what it is, as it's f2p, and try not to be too involved or invested.

For sure though, the steam community themselves are not very involved in this game since there are other games available for them, the majority of players are old school veteran gamers so to speak.

and that ruins the game for everyone else.

especially when they pile in the same guild and control all the farming spots/bosses.

i hit level 105 and quit. i just can't worry about pvp when i'm already having trouble with monsters.. like how do i fight against 10 man squad when 1-3 monsters are all i can handle?
so now that grinding spot is literally gone because its occupied by those guys, if i run back there they will just steamroll me again like i'm nothing. but i need to do the quest to get progress...? and i can't because they are there. isn't that like griefing? cos i'm not a threat and they get nothing from killing me, they just do it to annoy me.

so yeah.. guilds in this game only exist to hate each other.

don't play Ascension server if you're not insane/masochist.

i wish they bring server transfer to game and allow me to take my character to legends.
i can't deal with these ''veterans'' like aren't you supposed to help new players and not grief them until they are ready to quit? smh

Lol I went on recently and all they do is rant on chat about their fights like 8 year Olds.

Ashen Empires is absolutely worth getting into still. Game is absolutely not dead" it's always been a small but loyal community. Most of the people I know who play have been playing it for over a decade, on and off. The "all time peak" of 1k players isn't accurate, the population has been around 250-150 on at any given time since the game launched on Steam. Also never heard of devs abusing power, I'd take that comment with a grain of salt. The developers are super active and interact with the community daily on Discord. I'd give it a try if it looks interesting at all to you.

I don't think they are veterans if they are sending 10 ppl to pvp. That's how most ppl pvp when they are god awful and just win with bodies instead of anything else lol.

Save yourself the headache and play Legends. There are a few guilds with some really nice people in them.

i play Legends and im having a blast so far. the community has been very friendly and informative to me as a new player. the game is a bit grindy just like any other mmorpg but most already know that going in. the discord stays active and if you want to join a guild there are people who are willing to pick you up and get you into a rhythm. the design is great to me and the itemization is awesome as well. its worth trying imo im surprised more people arent playing it.

The community is 100% dead. You have to get to the end game (3-4 weeks of full time play) before you get to hand out with the 30-50 people who play. The experience getting to the end game is like the worst job you ever had. It sucks and takes forever.

Are you getting paid to ♥♥♥♥ on the game or something? lmao

There is 4 people online belonging to 3 different guilds. That is how active the game is. Unless there is a hidden channel I'm unaware about.

Sadly this games hay days happened like 20 years ago. Dransik was a wonderful game, Ashen Empires was still fun for a long time. By today's standards, hard to really find anything special about it unless you had the historical ties. I'm sure the right kind of person could still find enjoyment to it, but it's a niche game for an even more niche crowd.

Most of the enjoyment this game had was from the social aspect, which was more novel before interacting with strangers on the internet was so easy and common. Back when this game was in its prime, it was still interesting to ask strangers you played with where they lived, and how life was over there. I remember having a friend I met in Dransik back when I was like 10-12, guy got locked up in-game for like 20 hours of real world time in prison. And I'd go visit him everyday in game while he serviced his sentence. And it was a fun little dynamic because you had to ask another prisoner in the communication room to go get them for you, no in game whisper system, no discord, no voice programs, etc. Modern gaming is better in many ways, but you just don't feel the need to have those connections with strangers anymore, you log on with your real life friends, talk in real time, and everyone else playing the game is background dressing. This game required that social engagement element to really stand out from the crowd. When you needed to have 15 or whatever followers come with you to help pass a quest objective in order to form your own guild, it demanded you interact with the people around you in the world. Wasn't just clicking of 2 buttons and naming the guild, was an actual quest to found your own community lol. Game had alot of really neat mechanics and ideas.
