Sound in desktop mode

I know the game is meant to be played in VR, but is there a way to get the sound to play over my normal headphones? It seems to only play out of my Rift.

I'm having the same problem. I can't figure out how to get it to play out of the desktop speakers. I even disabled the Rift headphones, restarted the game, and it's still playing out of the Rift headphones!!!

have you tried unplugging the rift?

I did and that worked. I just feel like that should be unnecessary though.

It's been a year since this was first mentioned and I'm just wondering if any progress has been made towards resolving the issue.

We need to add an audio device option so people can select a device manually. The rift software sometimes hijacks the games audio setting and switches it to the rift. Two things you can do for now: 1) unplug the rift if playing in desktop 2) set your oculus software to also play audio on your primary sound device so you can still hear it our of your speakers if it is using the rift
