Followed instructions to the letter, tried the fitting and tightening of these nuts singly, consecutively, in series, in reverse series and all together to the three torque stages specified, but to no avail.
Almost certain that it's something trivial and easy to fix that I have overlooked, botched or omitted, but for the life of me (and despite another couple of hours of fruitless experimentation) I cannot work out what it might be!
I can give it a go when I get in, but it is literally at the point of the tutorial where I am told to insert the pistons into the block, turn it over and bolt the Connecting Rod Cap Nuts down around the cam at 15, 35 and lastly 50 nm torque settings - I have done this every way I can find, there is no indication of what I have done wrong, yet the tutorial does not progress...?
By the by, this game is jaw-droppingly good - Bravo!
I hoped VR would manage to make the leap between frivolous gimmick to serious, practical application this time around, and at long last you guys are blazing that trail with a real, polished stand-out title.
Taken screenshots - can't seem to post them here, tho...
How shall I get them to you, pls?
*Updated* - Sent to wrenchbugs@gmail address under same title
I have exactly the same problem. In my opinion, I installed everything correctly, but the tutorial will not end automatically. Also the tut does not tell me, what is wrong.
Can I give you some debug information or anything else?
Apologies for time lapse - real life is forever hectic...
No, there are zero parts left on my workbench, everything right up to the tutorial section I sent you screenshots of has produced the little completion sound (including the piston rings, the bearings and the little @ shaped clips that keep the bar inside the pistons) there is categorically nothing left on my workbench and still I cannot progress further in the tutorial - again, I have tried every combination of tightening the connecting rod cap nuts to no avail, not just once but multiple times using the torque settings mandated by the tutorial, I have used the 'highlight' function and it doesn't highlight anything, not even the connecting rod cap nuts.
Still enjoying the game, but having to watch U-Tube for areas covered by later tutorials I cannot start coz I can't finish the one I'm stuck on is slightly annoying!
I don't have VR myself, but I'm going to jump in-game now, try it on desktop mode and do a few experiments, see if I can find anything that might help or if there's any kind of work around (the latter of which I'm pretty doubtful as the progression trigger is a big part of the tutorial). But anyway, I'll have a play and see what I can find. No promises though.
It's definitely a little buggy though and could do with some polishing up.
One other thing I will mention... Right at the first stage when you're putting your Oil Squirters in, the tutorial tells you to put your Oil Squirter Bolts in to your Oil Squirters. What it doesn't tell you to do is TIGHTEN THEM.... 15Nm. each. It WILL allow you to continue on to the next stage of the tutorial while these bolts are still loose.
In-fact, you can progress right up until the entire bottom end is built and to the point where you've just tightened the rod nuts. - the point at which everyone is tripping up.
I already knew I had to tighten them as I've already built probably 20 or more complete engines from start to finish, but for someone seeing this for the first time they may not know.
I'm now going to go back through the entire bottom end tutorial again but this time ignore the tightening of those squirter bolts as the tutorial will automatically trigger once the crank and everything is in place, despite the oil squirters still being loose. This may potentially be the cause of people not being able to progress or clear the tutorial.
Admittedly, I did leave them undone right up until I'd finished tightening all of the rod nuts and then started pressing to tablet buttons to complete the tutorial, so this may have had a bearing one me being able to clear it with a few button presses. I now just want to clarify whether or not this is possible with those oil squirter bolts still undone.
I'll come back with my findings in a few minutes.
The tutorial system is about to completely change so don't worry too much about this being an issue. Going forward tutorials and gameplay will be using a different system.
So, although in theory those oil squirter bolts should be tight, that isn't whats stopping the tutorial from progressing.
One other possibility is that one of the oil pump bolts might actually be in one of the water pump bolt holes. There's two holes very close together and they both share the same bolt, so if you accidentally have one of your oil pump bolts tightened correctly but in the water pump hole instead then the tutorial correctly picks up that the oil pump isn't properly tightened and won't let you progress. Might be worth just taking a quick look at that to confirm that's not what's holding you up. Even with a ton of experience, i still made this mistake on the tutorial the first time around, although I spotted it instantly and managed to correct it... but it's definitely fairly easy to do and not notice if you're new at it.
Many thanks for your continued assistance!
Lemme know how you get on.
If all else fails it looks as if you can press the 'skip' button on the tablet beside the part of the tutorial you're working on, and the press 'complete' at the top to be able to progress to the next tutorial. (well, that's how it's laid out in desktop mode anyway.. VR my be a little different)
It's possible that this will only work if you have done everything correctly in the current tutorial though.
I know when I was doing that 'oil pump bolt in the water pump hole' experiment for instance, it wouldn't let me use the above button clicking trick to move on... and rightly so... as the oil pump wasn't correctly bolted down.
So yeah, If everything is present and correct, that is one little work-around for you to be able to progress. It's not really cheating (although it might feel like it) as all you're really doing is manually triggering the completion of the tutorial as it doesn't do it itself.
But anyway, as has been stated, the whole tutorial system and a lot of parts of the main game itself are about to see quite a few changes anyway, so hopefully a lot of these little ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ will be ironed out.
Anyway, if you figure it out (or anyone else who has posted here figures their issues out) then make sure to drop a note down here. I'd definitely be interested to see what people come up with.
