Is the game giving you a low oil symptom?
I get close to the oil inlet hole in the valve cover, putting it at eye level. I then bring out the funnel, and lower it to the hole, then it snaps into position. It is correct when there is some air space below the funnel, above the hole.
If the funnel snaps differently, you will lose oil when filling. You will also see something strange (like a fluttering / splashing animation) at the bottom of the funnel when the oil level gets low. I think this is interference between various meshes (funnel, cover and oil animation) colliding.
