For future players struggling against the Demon Lord, let me recount my struggle.
I choose Totori and Meruru as companions because
- they can use items
- Totori's Duplicate (half effect of any item without consuming the item)
- Meruru's Pinwheel (delay enemy turn).
The Demon Lord uses Counter Spell every time I heal.
Yep. That happens. So I made Elixir with
- Pepped Up (automatically activate whenever an alchemist is alive but their HP is below 50%)
- Spiritflower Energy (KO recovery to revive a dying party member and increase max HP to increase survivability)
- Clever Heal (MP recovery so my party can use skill without care)
- Rank Special (increase item's power)
- Ultra Quality (any quality trait will suffice as long as the resulting Elixir is good enough)
Wholesale it and carry it in your basket. Now you will automatically be healed whenever any of your character HP falls below 50%. But not when they're dead, that is what the Spiritflower Energy is for. So any of you KO'ed party member will be revived anytime the Elixir is triggered.
Then the Demon Lord almost always one-shot-ed me to death.
Okay, so, apparently, 200-250 HP is not enough. I followed Swetzie's guide to make very good weapons and armor for my party bringing their HP to around 350-450 points. Seems enough, I thought. The three of them uses Esty's Bunny Tail. Rorona uses Friends Necklace. Totori and Meruru use Esty's Victory Charm.
Basically, good weapon and armor and so so accessories. And that was enough to make my party avoid being one-shot-ed to death. Just alive enough to trigger the Pepped Up Elixir.
The Demon Lord uses Life Steal to heal himself. And the numbers do not make any sense. Totori's HP is only 400, Demon Lord's Life Steal does 1100 damage but it heals 1700 points.
I really thought I had this. But damn that Life Steal. So I decided to Assist Guard every time the option is available. That consumes the assist gauge, but better than healing the Demon Lord.
It seems my attacks are not doing much. Totori and Meruru have all these debuffs. Rorona is fine because she is being guarded.
This makes Rorona's Meteor - Meruru's Assist Attack - Totori's Diocraft Throw - Rorona's Lethal Bomb combo deal so much less damage because only Rorona's attack deal significant damage. Totori and Meruru only do less than 100 points of damage, if not 1.
So I guard Rorona with Totori when possible and that makes Meruru deals significant damage again. And I scrapped the previous combo and only use Rorona's Meteor - Meruru's Assist Attack - Rorona's Angel Fullheart. It only consumes 2 assist gauge and it is more effective.
I also saved my special and only uses them when the character has no attack debuff, else, the special just deal 1 damage.
And with that I finally defeated the Demon Lord. If I remember correctly, the final attack was Meruru's special, MMH. It dealt around 2000-2500 damage. During the fight, Rorona's Angel Fullheart dealt 600-1000 damage and the infinity meteor dealt 200-400 damage each time.
I did some more research, made 3 high-end speed belts, and 11 high-end pinwheel items. It took three more tries, because the DL would almost lose, suddenly jump to the top of the action track and take 4 or 5 actions to slaughter the group.
The last try, I got DL almost dead and was expecting him to cheat again, so I threw every high damage attack I could think of … and he was suddenly dead. It felt like I accidentally won. LOL
Any win you can walk away from. LOL
[… and rush to save before the game mysteriously crashed, or something …]
