The story is typically just like a slice of life anime without the whole saving th whole world/country bit of other JRPGS its more relaxed and there story focuses more on the daily life of the characters. The combat is typical turn based combat however there is more emphasis on using items and crafting better equipments to make your fights easier rather than grinding levels. Its a crafting series after all
>.<. However despite not having a very good story this is a good game to go for if you like relaxing story and cute characters. They also have the some of the best boss fight OST of any RPG i know of and tons of Bonus bosses to fight. Yeah the game may be relaxing however the final boss fights of these games are usually pretty awesome and hard and there are TONS of bonus bosses if you like the challenge.
2. There's a story, but most of them are family friendly, very innocent story, lol
3. Just like every jrpg, there's store, party members, fighting enemies and bosses.
4. i don't think it's like recettear

Rorona and the rest of the Arland trilogy is probably one of the easier ones when it comes to learning the battles and alchemy mechanics on the PC since its a pretty old title. No comment on the console only ones that came out after the PS2 era since i've yet t try em out lol.
The alchemy is also pretty basic since its just about using better ingredients to make better alchemy items and ofc the usual playing around with transfering traits into ingredient items to put them into the equipments and alchemy items you want to use.
However this is of course kinda offset with the game having a time limit on assignments and thus doesnt really allow you to experiment with stuff without save scumming or doing a NG+ run.
Sophie is probably the best atelier to start with if you wanna take your time learning with the alchemy and item creation mechanics. As for the battle system the ingame explanation would probably be better but here's the basic explanation for it from a guide since i'm too lazy to reinstall the game again to check how the combat was lol.
Each character can also choose between Aggressive and Defensive stance.
What these do is determined by your Chain Counter
When the Chain Counter reaches 100%, characters may perform additional attacks if they are in the aggressive stance.
Characters in defensive stance will try to protect other characters at 100% Chain Counter.
At the start this will then reset to 0%.
However later it will be changed such that it doesn't reset at 100% and continues up to 200%.
At 200% characters in the same stance will perform a much more powerful combination attack or defense depending on the stance.
This will then reset the counter back to 100%.
