Book codes in library
Are there any clues for the codes required to obtain the botanical and Latin vocabulary books in the library, or is this puzzle just a mash-fest? I've been through all the "clues" in the journal and haven't found anything related to them, unless they disappeared already. If it matters, I'm playing in the "advanced" puzzle mode.

I think this is one of the better puzzles in the game. Even if you have figured out the call numbers, you cannot pick up the last two books until you realize you need them by making relevant notes in the journal. Do not worry. The information will appear.

I think we will need the book on art in the bonus game.

I finally did get past this puzzle, but how/where/when does the information appear? This was one of the last things I did because I never did see any clues for these call numbers, and I had to resort to a walkthrough to get them.

You have to figure out the call number system by experimentation. Good puzzle. I did want to be able to open some of those books, especially the history of DFA one.

Not the best of a puzzle, reminds me of Myst a little.

8dognight, so there is no clue(s) to the numbers required? By "experimentation" you mean "trial-and-error"? In other words it IS a mash-fest...just keep trying different numbers until you get it right, right? Or is there some logic to the puzzle that I'm missing?

Yes, there is a logic to it. I figured out the call number system and I am by no means a whiz. After you determine the subject order, work out the order the librarian places year and volume by sampling a few possibilities. That is neither trial and error nor a mash-fest; that is deductive reasoning.

Thanks for the prompt in the right direction, 8dognight! I am restarting the game now and will use that info to work my way through the codes. Don't know why I couldn't "see the forest for the trees" before! My wife sometimes reminds me that I am prone to "front-of-the-shelf blindness"... ;>)

So, how did you find the exact combination? I want to know the logic of this library book puzzle. I've finished the game by "trial and error" method, but i want to know is there a clue? This latin poem? Portraits? Even the youtubers who did the walkthrough click SKIP button. And there is no official guide...

You figure out the order of the subject, date, and and volume from other titles. The order is quite logical; only one differs from a set progression and that one is obvious.

Mash fest. I feel like we should not have been allowed to use the machine until it was needed. I don't how many times I went to the machine thinking I supposed to use it and it wasn't even time yet.
