Cross save / progression between Epic Games Launcher and Steam?

Can I use my Epic save game to play on Steam or forced to start a new character?

Any experience so far?

Epic saves work, I followed this thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/934700/discussions/0/4368004468486481153/
"go to appdata>local>deadisland>saved and copy the .sav file then launch the steam version at least once. then go back to your appdata folder and youll see a new folder called deadislandsteam and just delete the save data there and paste the one from the previous folder and there you go."

However, I'm not sure if it's the Epic save or some background Epic installs Steam tried and failed (due to my firewall), whenever I launch game it now says use appropriate launcher, but after clicking ok on message everything works. Would be curious if others using Epic sav file get same issue complaining about not using appropriate launcher.
