I think people's hang up about it is installing anything from Epic. It's not really the game itself that is an issue
Epic and all that can portray being the "good guy" but they are so far from it, just full of it like the rest of them.
its comedy gold really, ive been checking several "ZOMG! EPIC GAMES! REFUND" posts and looking at the profiles of some of the haters they own games that were epic exclusives and several games that uses EOS too, one guy said something like "I dont want epic stuff on my pc, im not buying this until they remove it", he had thousands of hours in games that uses EOS
I avoid Ubisoft and EA games for that reason, Epic are just another set of jerks, well specifically one jerk, Tim Sweeney, he's just full of more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ than the rest of them put together.
I don't even care for the free games, theres 100+ on my Epic Account and i've played one of them, but hey if it benefits the developers and he loses out, i'm all for adding them to my account.
I also own more games on GOG for that reason, so i can avoid all that. :)
There are Exclusives, which are released early on Epic for the obvious reason of getting people to sign up, which is also the reason they give away free games.
However this is the first time i've seen Epic Online Services as a requirement, which is just yet another underhanded way of getting people signed up.
I did the same, and I was able to play single player only- did you get different results?
Required to get further than the title screen! I took a screenshot here. This is after booting the game up and refusing the install.

seems like you agreed with it when you played Back 4 Blood, it also uses Epic Online Services
Total War: Warhammer
The Elder Scrolls Online
Ark: Survival Evolved
Payday 2
Conan Exiles
you bought them even though they also use Epic Online Services
