I like it better then the original and I loved bought both DI1 and riptide on launch despite the backlash, bugs, flaws they had. Let me list a some enhancements DI2 has over DI1 and riptide:
- Obviously the combat is much much better.
- Visuals, and effects are excellent,
- Attack feedback is excellent and the gore system is some of the best and most satisfying I have even experienced.
- attacking zombies with a variety of weapons have never felt better and each weapon type has its own unique finishers/heavy attacks.
- Snappier combat animations, and less floaty as the original.
- more interesting and better zombie variants (including the standard ones).
- Story is no where near as boring as the first and there are some genuinely entertaining moments in the story compared to the OG games (hits that over the top yet serious tone, better then the first).
- Weapon crafting is much better and has more depth to it
- performance/optimization is good
- experienced no bugs/glitches/crashes
I could go on and on, but to balance it out my only negatives about the game is I still think I prefer the traditional skill trees to the card system, the are not human enemies in this game, the game is less punishing then the first game (so no more zombies no csoping you with thrown weapons lol) and this game does not seem to be getting a NG+ mode which is many peoples biggest issue.
I still go back to play the OG games from time to time and going from DI1/riptide to DI2 is day and night, and DI2 takes the best parts of the OG games and makes them better, smoother, more impactful, and more visually appealing.
As a PC Port it seems to be fine, I'm not seeing the typical UE4 stutter and there's enough options to tweak the game to get it running how you want.
The whole thing about EGS is based on a lack of information on the store page. EGS account is only needed if you plan to do cross play between steam and EGS versions. If your not doing that you can either play with just steam users or ignore crossplay altogether.
Statistically it will come and fade as the next big thing releases.
steamdb charts showed it peaked at 5,818 players on Steam's premier launch.
Ok, so it's an older game relaunched, compare to steamdb's chart of Horizon Forbidden West which already was on Playstation with 15,827 players on Day 1.
For chuckles I looked up Starfield steamdb which Day 1'd at 330,723.
I am not in the mood to binge this game and probably going to take bites of it casually over a long period of time like I have Dying Light games or State of Decay. For that reason I'm glad to add it to my library.
It's just something to pass the time until Manor Lords releases later this week which is the #1 Wishlisted game on steam.
Can we talk about the pitiful horde sizes? I guess its limitations of the engine but they are a fraction of anything we got from Dead Rising 3. No accessibilty. Spamming the pick up button is boring now. Just let me do what I did in Last of Us P 2 and have auto pick up on. Pushing a button while looking at something is a waste of time.
Game wont be fixed if its already been this long and we got it in this state. i can't imagine how bad it was day one.
The map is very much more linear than Banoi, so you only keep going if the combat clicks for you
If you'd want more open exploration like Dying Light/Dead Island then this isn't it
Your literally compare this game to Dead rising and Last of Us lol. Its a freaking dead island game, so you either like this style of game or you don't. My goodness, its like you were looking for the most smallest things to criticize.
- Oh no I can't shut a door, no buy
- Oh no doors are locked and I actually have to explore/progress the story to see what behind them, no buy.
- Oh no I have to use fuses to open door and get cool weapons, no buy.
- Oh no a dead island game NOT known for having large hordes like dead rising does not have large hordes, no buy.
like your complaints should just be "this game is not for me" because your nitpicks are kind of ridiculous. Its like if I reviewed Last of Us and complained that the game was a linear movie game and not an open world zombie hack and slash like dead Rising or Dying Light lol.
Nothing you mentioned needs to be "fixed" to meet your specific standards, the game is designed the way it is and you either are with it or you are not.
Let me simplify it for you since you seem to struggle with comprehension: I not once said 'no buy,' yet you say it 4 times, I'm saying the game is downright awful. It's not about expecting the moon, it's about expecting a game to function properly after a decade of development.
And before you come at me with more of your condescending remarks, maybe take a moment to actually read and understand what I'm saying. It's not rocket science, but I understand if basic communication eludes you.
So, instead of blindly defending a flawed game, why not acknowledge its shortcomings and demand better? Or are you content with settling for less because that's all you know?
