You don't need to create an Epic Games Account to get connected to Epic Online Services

Before launching the game for the first time, go there -> "C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Dead Island 2" and delete the EpicGameLauncher folder. Then open the "DeadIsland.ini" file in notepad and modify the "NoOperation=0" to "NoOperation=1"
If the epic game launcher is already installed on your computer, uninstall it before doing the steps above.

yikes, I didn't realize it got to this point.

No one should be shocked this game has EOS, I said it before, any game that is on Epic's store using Epic's achievement system that eventually comes to Steam is going to have EOS, developers aren't going to bother removing it themselves before bringing it here, eventually 99% of future third party AAA games are going to have EOS integration, because Epic now requires them to add achievements on Epic if the game plans to release on Steam with achievements.
That's probably the dumbest nonsense I've read in quite some time.

No you don't need that account unless you want to play crossplay with EGS players.

Okay, bear with me. Just because something is happening doesn't mean it has to happen or it's good that it does happen. People who decide to stay away from Epic for whatever reason possible, is by their choice. To then launch a game on a different platform only to find out you still need a service from the launcher they don't wanna use is insanely stupid.
You saying it has to be the case because of your crazy mental gymnastics is insanely dumb. It just is.
I don't know why people choose to ride any company whether it be Steam or Epic but you seem to be one of them.
But you're right. No one should be shocked as devs who sign an exclusive deal with Epic are in it for the money and also quite lazy it seems. So it's really no surprise.

Wow ! Thank you for sharing that

Man, I have to say this genuinely just shocked me.
I had no idea that EOS was implemented in soooo many single player games for use in lots of non-multiplayer components.

Welp trying to keep EOS off my system is gonna be futile lol.

I don't side with either, I have just used Steam for over a decade before Epic's launcher even existed, so I feel no reason I should buy my games elsewhere, it's that simple. I don't have an issue with EOS, I play games on Steam that include it all the time and I don't care, but I will still never support Epic. I'm just letting others know, it's something they'll have to accept at some point if they want to keep playing third-party AAA games.

Products that support achievements through other PC storefronts that sell third-party products must also support Epic Games Store achievements. The achievements available to users on the Epic Games Store must be substantially similar to those offered through other storefronts.
https://dev.epicgames.com/docs/game-services/achievements
Achievements that you define with the Achievements Interface are called "Epic Online Services achievements". You can add them to your product regardless of the platforms or storefronts that your product uses.

To have Epic achievements, the game must have EOS integration. To have Steam achievements, the game must have Epic achievements if it wants to release on Epic. So any game that is going to release on both platforms day one with achievements is going to have EOS integration, like I said in my original post, it's coming, people just haven't realized this.

I said 99% because there will of course be outliers, sometimes a game might release on Steam first, then release on Epic at a later time, which might bypass EOS integration for the Steam version, at least until the game receives an update, and the two builds likely merge, or in rarer cases a developer might be willing to micro-manage two different builds of a game for PC for the entirety of the games support cycle, which is unrealistic. Most developers are just going to include Steamworks and EOS together as the easiest and simplest solution for them.

Not sure why I bothered wasting my time even talking about it, but there you go, there's the definitive proof that it's going to happen more in the future whether people like it or not.
I don't have an EGS account, just clicked "no" on linking my steam to EGS and worked fine. Played some solo and with a friend via steam.

People are very much spreading dis-info that you need an EGS account and the whole desktop app it self on your system to play this.

Don't like EGS either, I don't use it , i only had an account there when it was used as an Unreal Tournament launcher before EPIC did Fortnite and turned it into a store after which i closed my account and I don't refuse going for a game that took the sh*tty deal with EPIC as it's often down to publishers doing it and not too often down to devs them selves.

Now onto the topic of it having some small functionalities from EGS's service inside the game to keep it self working for online that's a different thing , if you're worried that even that is too much then go die on the hill dude cause that's over-zelousness to an 11th degree and if it really bothers you that much it's possible to delete those tiny scraps of EGS yourself but you'll only be able to do solo play then.

People currently are overflowing the forums and reviews with wrong information and are refusing to actually test it them selves and state correctly what actually bit of EGS's service is inside the installation, they just see one person scream it is unplayable without an EGS account and spread it like wild fire. You don't need it, you don't the desktop app it self but yes there is a small bit of functionality taken from the EGS version to make the online work but is not depended on an EGS account or having the entire desktop app installed.
Dunno why people dislike the epic game launcher, they give out free games.
people complain too much.

Like I said, the reasons are irrelevant as everyone can do anything by choice. I don't know why you are out here justifying yourself for it. You don't have to support Epic but when you rush forward and say people should just accept this and that, you indirectly support Epic in that way.
But no, people don't have to accept it. Why do you think people have to? There are countless things happening around the world and just because they are happening, doesn't mean people have to accept it.
Okay, if a game that is releasing on Epic needs to have EOS integration is absolutely irrelevant. This is Steam and if the game has the same achievements, that doesn't mean that has be approved by Epic nor does EOS have to be implemented.

Quoting me out of context isn't going to help you win this argument. I clearly said people are going to have to accept it if they want to continue playing 99% of future third-party AAA games, it's going to eventually be in most of them, if they aren't willing to accept that, then they won't be able to play them, as most games these days are protected by DRM and require online connections.

Edit: Maybe I didn't specify that actually, in my first post I said "I said it before", and i did mention something alone these lines, thought I said it again this time, sorry. But this is what I meant, and it's a fact. Of course people have a choice and don't have to accept it, but their choice in most cases in the future will be to either accept it to be able to play these games, or not accept it and not play them, maybe they can be pirates for games that don't have DRM that never gets cracked or don't require being online, but that will be their only option to play the game PC.

I wish it was the other way around, where Steam games only had Steamworks integration in the future, but when you introduce more launchers, and Epic makes these dirty new rules out of no where, it's just going to happen naturally, it's an unfortunate side effect. Developers having to manage updates on multiple launchers with different builds for the game to account for their achievement support isn't practical and almost no publisher is going to go out of their way to do that.

Anyway I'm done talking about this, I provided you all the proof and you're still picking at the seams, have a nice one.
