Film Grain effect?
There seems to be a sort of film grain on the game? But no settings to turn it off. Anyone know if there's some other way to tweak it so it looks less grainy? :D

The only solution I've found is turning Shading Quality to Low.

I'm not sure what else the Shading Quality affects, but I couldn't tell any difference other than the film grain effect disappearing from shading between Low and Ultra.

Man I was looking for this setting. Seems to be hard-locked to on. Maybe now that the game is on Steam someone will create a mod to fix it as that community grows.

edit the Engine.ini from Users\[username]\AppData\Local\DeadIslandSteam\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

add

[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.Tonemapper.Quality=3

Worked, thanks.

Tried that, couldn't find \Config\WindowsNoEditor at that place.
Then did find it at [username]\AppData\Local\DeadIsland\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

added the lines but made no difference.

I will never understand why devs add a film grain effect to their game that has near photo realistic graphics. I noticed it in the early game, maybe my eyes adjusted to it but good to know turning down shader quality fixes it.

Already played 12 hours and just applied this "fix" to remove the film grain , looks far better to me now overall.

I cant find the engine.ini file in the steam decks pfx location. I also have hidden files turned on obviously.

I found the location on steam deck.
Once you get to the pfx folder its:
Drive_c > users > steamuser > AppData > Local > DeadIsland > Saved > Config > WindowsNoEditor

I tried it and i think i'll just leave the film grain on, gives more photorealism imo

Thank you. Such a baffling and idiotic decision to have it on by default let alone not having an option to turn it off. I don't get why devs love it so much.

None of these are helping me...I can't find this location

open the secret folders in your windows. Appdata is a secret folder inside of your username. Alternatively you can use the Run (press windows button + r to open) and write %appdata% to open appdata folder.

It makes games look better for toasters.

Also it is sort of a nod to the zombie movie franchises or left for dead, outdated concept but there it is.

But, it would great if there was always the option to easily turn it off.
