At the end of the day, Epic Online Services does not require a mandatory installation in order to be used. Plenty of games, including a competitor for this game (Dying Light 2), use Epic Online Services without requiring an installation.

Why do players need to install Epic Online Services for the game to function even if they don't want to bother with crossplay with Epic's storefront? Why do they need to install Epic Online Services when other games have used Epic Online Services without installation and achieved the same thing?
