10+ Years in Development
From the creators of "Homefront: Revolution" XDDD

What're your guys' predictions for this launch?
I'm guessing "Mostly Negative" in the first two days, before finally settling on "Mixed" by the time May 1st comes around.

I just don't see this going well after seeing what's happened to every other game that launches after a decade of development-hell... especially when games like Dying Light exist.

it really wasn't 10 years in development, actual development only took a few years, it was stuck in legal problems until then

Ohhhh, I actually was unaware of this!
I just remember reading about Dead Island 2 wayyyy back when.
(It was in a MAGAZINE, that's how long ago this was)
I sincerely hope this game is a smash-hit success, especially after the bucket-of-mediocre that was Dying Light 2... I'm just prepped for disappointment after the past few years. Lol

Dambuster worked on the Crysis games so they are experienced in both consoles and pc.
I liked Homefront Revolution, it was a mid experience just like Dying Light 2. But nothing extraordinary but still enjoyable as a 8/10 game.

Cool, if it's another "8/10" game I can just go play Dying Light 1 & 2 again... (and likely not lose out on any features that this game has)

First of all, Homefront: Revolution was nowhere near a bad game. Secondly DI2 has been out for a year and proved to be a decent comeback already. Personally, DI2 was one of my favs of 2023.

Dead Island 2 is a good game (until the very end when you realise it's not the end). It is very atmospheric with the visuals and the sound design. 10/10 on both video and audio ! The combat and story might be subjective but the A/V is top notch and quite inspired !

This game came out to pretty decent reviews last year. Look, I get not liking or considering games that release on EGS, but this thing also came to consoles and had decent reviews as a fun zombie killing romp with a somewhat meh story. Just like the previous Dead Island games, shocking

HFTR a flawed game because of its troubled development, but it has incredible atmosphere and really good story DLC. I wish it could get some extra bug fixes and stuff. Dead Island 2 learns a lot from HFTR, and you can sort see how things like the rain system inspired the fluid mechanics where you can spray water, acid, burning, or electrical damage on surfaces.

Dead Island 2 is great, if this game gets negative reviews is because of the usual brain dead stupidity of Steam users. This place is why its so appealing for developers go exclusive on EGS.

100 percent.
Plenty of publishers are seeing the benefit of EGS over steam outside of just the financial initiative for early launch. You get your game out onto a store front where you can avoid the ridiculous overly politicised and poorly moderated nonsense that Steam has become.

Yes!
I went back to play it a year ago and its surprising how much it has held up but also how it almost feels better now because some of the ideas it was trying out were a bit ahead of its time. It's still flawed in many ways but definitely something that is worth a play.

It's almost a miracle that this game came out given the development life cycle it went through.

Dambuster Studios might have finished Dead Island 2, but Techland, Yager Development, and Sumo Digital all did some work on some version of the title beforehand. After the first three studios were dropped, it was Dambuster’s chance to shine and pitch their vision of the zombie-stomping simulator. The studio showed off its ideas, got the project, and released Dead Island 2 on April 21st.
