The game is alot more fun without Counter Attacks.

CA do feel kinda busted. One-shotting or near one-shotting zombies without using stamina, a generous timing window with blocking.

I just feel it slows down the pacing of combat way too much. I still use them, but honestly, a lot of times I'll just avoid the prompt for a more fluid experience. More often, I'll use the counter prompt as a way to avoid an incoming attack from another zombie as it gives you invincibility.

Who cares if your opinion is unpopular? This isn't a popularity contest, and enjoyment is subjective. You've got nothing to prove to us, and you owe us no explanation for how you subjectively enjoy your gaming time. Enjoy it till your heart is content.

They are 100% situational so imo they are fine as they are.

Sometimes when a zombie is alone and I want to finish them off quick I will dodge and do a finishing move, but other times its more efficient to dodge, stagger them, and then focus on another enemy until they recover this is especially good if your being swarmed.

Overall I feel without it the combat would get stale much quicker and its just more options for the player which is a good thing. I say if you don't like it don't use it as the games gives you plenty of ways to dispatch enemies without the counter attacks feeling OP.

My Bruno that is focused on knifes and crits to the head is good both with and without counter attacks but I will admit jabbing my knife straight into a zombies head will never get old lol.

They make hordes non-issues. Just stand there spamming block until you trigger a counter attack and it heals you, gives you immunity to all the other zombs, and extra exp. Repeat until everything is dead at your feet.

Oh and it doesn't take any weapon durability either. And on top of all that it bypasses damage type immunities eg a fire weapon on a burning zombie? No problem if it is a counter attack.

Hmm I only messed with block with my last character, but I prefer dodge counter as it feels more satisfying imo.

Also have you tried this strategy with the masochist card? Many strategies that worked in the base difficulty are not as powerful when you can't one shot everything in your path. Try the hardmode card and I bet you you will not feel invincible unless you just so happen to have found the most busted build in the game lol.

According to the wiki: "Player damage is reduced by half (50%) as is stability damage to zombies, meaning it makes limbs harder to maim and zombies a lot more difficult to kill. The skill also reduces the stun time for zombies by 70%, leaving windows for retaliation, healing or finishing moves a lot tighter. Performing a perfect Block or Dodge becomes a lot more difficult and require more skill to pull off. Slayer natural health regeneration is reduced by a quarter (25%) whilst healing items including Medkits are reduced in effectiveness by a fifth (20%), making it more difficult to stay alive"

So counter attack spam sounds like it would still work but the window to hit a "well timed block" would just be harder to hit. Sounds like it'd still not eat any durability nor affect the immunity bypass, etc etc.

Speculating won't really do much as I have been playing with the card activated since starting a new character and I will say that just for the huge damage drop off you will not be instant killing all zombies with the counter attack as much as your claiming you can in the normal game. Unless you get really good synergized build/weapons going, you will be activating the counter attack and pushing the zombie away because your not doing enough damage to outright kill them. This will leave at a disadvantage more often then not because other zombies will only surround you and you will will not have killed the one you counter attacked.

I also want to say that the i-frames for the counter attack are not as good as you think as I have been chunked pretty hard by normal zombies because I activated it as others were attacking and you will eat those attacks.

Trust me, with the masochist card, unless you have an actually build that synergizes you will not even be doing enough damage to instakill most zombies with the counter attack early on. The only reason my crit build works so well with it is because the knives I use do crits to head attacks, I stacked crit based cards/weapon mods that boost crit damage, and it just so happens that the counter attack for the knives are a stab to the head does like 6k plus damage lol.

At the end of the day I say if the mechanic is making you enjoy the game less you simply have the choice to not use it and as the other poster said it makes the game fun in its own right just playing as you want.
