Epic Online Services could not be found and I cannot Open the Game!
Today the game cannot be started from STEAM, indicating a problem with Epic Online Games Services...
Trying to reistalling Epic Online Games (delete the Epic Online Game App from Windows, and reinstall it from: right click on deadiland Game on Steam, Open the appropriate folder, and install) without success...

Additionally I removed the whole game from Steam and re-downloed and install it. When I tried to Open it, I still recieve the same error:
"Epic Online Services could not be found. Please verify the install on your game client and lunch Dead Island 2 to retry. The game will now close."

Yesteday it worked fine!
The problem occured today...

In the Event Logs on Windows I see the following error:
"The Epic Online Services service terminated with the following service-specific error:
The system cannot find the file specified."

Ok fixed it based off some online posts.

1. Went into apps, uninstalled the Epic game services
2. Downlaoded epic launcher which comes with new versions of EOS
3. Went to X:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Launcher\Portal\Extras\EOS, installed the new versions of EOS
4. started the game but ... the moment the EOS verification showed up before game started i cancelled it not allowing it to change the version
5. game started normally

Anyway from what i checked in windows EventViewer the EOS app fails to launch as either it cant find it or the version is wrong, thats why the game wont start up, it sends request for EOS to start but it fails.
Devs need to fix this ♥♥♥♥ and make sure EOS that comes with the game is up to date.

Thank you my friend for your willing to help but unfortunately the above does not work in my case... :(
I am affraid that I will go for a full refund... this is totally unacceptable!!

Predictable, im not even sure why some versions of EOS work while others dont, might be another system registry path that differs per version and you are stuck with what ever the devs pushed that day.
They really need to standardize this as soon as possible.

i got the same problem than you, and none of the unisntall/reinstall of epic games ever worked.
But this, saved my day:

If you don't want to play Dead Island 2 Steam version with EGS runned
1, Make sure the Epic Store program is uninstalled. Then, follow these steps:
2, Before launching the game for the first time, navigate to "X:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Dead Island 2" and delete the EpicGameLauncher folder.
3. Next, open the "DeadIsland.ini" file (file is in Dead Island 2 directory) in Notepad and modify "NoOperation=0" to "NoOperation=1".
4. If the Epic Games Launcher is already installed on your computer, uninstall it before proceeding with the steps above.

Are you saying this solution even allows you to even dodge Eos? Or just the launcher? Because the word is the launcher isn't required but Eos is. Thanks.

In addition to the steps posted above, the guide I followed (here) also says to delete the EOS folder. So it would seem it does bypass EOS entirely. I get an error message in the bottom right corner of the main menu screen saying it can't connect to the online services but otherwise I can play the game.

I've not had any issues with it personally, you know you can just not log in right? It'll let you play without credentials.

I repeat all the steps I followed, to solve my problem (including those I get from openning a ticket on PLAION support):

1. On Steam, right-click on Dead Island 2 in your Library and disable the Steam Cloud saves
2. Type %localappdata% into a Windows Explorer window or into the Run window after pressing Win Key + R on your keyboard
3. Locate the following folders (you may possess only one of them): "DeadIsland" & "DeadIslandSteam", these folders contain your local saves for Dead Island 2 (respectively for the Epic and Steam versions), please delete them
4. Launch the Game again, you will be offered to Connect to Epic once again, you can either skip it or confirm it.
5. You may experience an infinite loading when connecting to Epic, if that happens; quit the game again and launch it a second time.
6. The issue should be resolved then and you can enable the Steam Cloud saves again, however, Steam will warn you of a save conflict, and we recommend selecting to keep the Local save files.
7. This step is not from PLAION support: Uninstall the "Epic Online Services" App from Windows, and reinstall it by using this method: (a)right click on deadiland Game on Steam, (b) press Manage and Open local files, (c) Open "EpicOnlineServices" folder and (d)install it again by running the "EpicOnlineServicesInstaller.exe".
8. This step is not from PLAION support: Open the "DeadIsland.ini" file (file is in Dead Island 2 directory) in Notepad and modify "NoOperation=0" to "NoOperation=1".
9. Run the Game from Steam. You will notice some additional anoying messages, but at last, the Game will run...!!! (hopefully!!)

IMPORTANT NOTE: On Step 6 if you choose yo keep the local files (that is the PLAION suggestion) you will loose all the game history and you to start from the beggining... (but at least the game works... even after some anoying warnings and messages!!)

Just following this step
"Open the "DeadIsland.ini" file (file is in Dead Island 2 directory) in Notepad and modify "NoOperation=0" to "NoOperation=1""
solved the problem for me. I didn't need to uninstall anything or delete any saves.

It's worked just fine on about 4 different machines I've tried, from the Steam Deck to Nvidia's remote machines, and my main desktop just fine.

You said in another thread that you were uninstalling this game, why are you still here? Also, just cancel the login. It's incredibly simple.

You for real?
The fact i finished the game does mean i cant discuss it anymore? What do you think, only people who are playing at this very moment can post here?
Regardless, nobody cares that it works for you, nobody cares about you, this thread is clearly for people with a problem,
What are YOU doing here?
