Are slayers supposed to be super human?

It could just be plot armor and video game logic but slayers do seem to have super human durability and other abilities. Like that shout that heals the player and weakens the zombies and the ability to produce shockwaves with kicks.

The infection gives autophage or something which means its changes you on a cellular level. Its not scientific, its just fantasy but yeah basically we get super powers.
