Epic Online Services – FAQ & Clarification (Epic Games Launcher is NOT required)

Epic Games Launcher ≠ Epic online Services

As we mentioned earlier Dead Island 2 on Steam does not require Epic Games Launcher for playing the game at all. However, the game indeed requires Epic Online Services.

❗Connecting to Epic Online Services happens automatically and doesn’t need any Epic Launcher or Epic account linking.

Crossplay

The crossplay option is enabled by default

For crossplay with random players on both Steam or Epic Games, you don't need to link your account to an Epic Games account.

You will need an Epic Games account to sync your Epic friends list with your steam friends list, and to invite friends who own the game on the Epic Games platform to play with you on Steam.

If the Steam user’s Epic account is linked and signed in in-game, then:

• They can match make with any other user via quickplay just like an unlinked Steam account can, as long as crossplay is enabled.
  
  
• They will have 2 friends lists – Steam friends and Epic friends, they can invite and join players from either of these lists
  
  
• They can bring up the Epic overlay and access their Epic friend list from there too, in addition to the Steam overlay

If the accounts are linked but they don't see any of the benefits mentioned above, they should ensure they are signed into Epic within the game. This option can be found in the online options menu.

Please note, Epic Online Services is required to play the game, even in single player, due to the way the game is coded; this happens automatically.

Unlinked accounts can still play with Epic players via quickplay if crossplay is enabled, they just won’t have an in-game Epic friends list or the Epic friends list overlay

Please redo hotfix v1.0 update and bring back game integrity from the release date. It was normal, we could play. epiconlineserviceinstaller.exe was actually installing and we could unlock Steam achievements.

Now I have an overlay with Epic Games and can't play with my Steam friends, only crashes all the times when try to invite. And Epic says I have 0/57 achievements with his dumb store, and still have 17/57 with Steam, BUT CAREFUL maybe now the achievements unlocks for Epic and NOT Steam.

Before the last hotfix the launcher isn't installed or having an overlay.

This is now Literally Unplayable. Good work with that sh1t.

I've tried a suggestion from someone that implied the instruction given by Dambuster Studio support is to delete deadisland and deadislandsteam folders and achievements progress should unlock.
Didn't do absolutely nothing. Started fresh without even configuring controls and visuals just to test this theory. They were not updated. All achievements progress are still stuck the way they were from April 25th. So I rolled both folders back on.

I am 68% of main/side/challenges completed and I want to
go back and unlock Steam trophies/achievements!

Undo 'hotfix v1.1' and 'hotfix v1.0' they did not fixed epiconlineserviceinstaller.exe from being installed.
Ever since the problem started in April 25th, when I run the game, the script command line from EPIC installer try to install in the background and startup of the game executable but never get to conclude.
I can still run the game on singleplayer if I keep 'EOS' folder in the game directory/Binaries deleted from existance. If not the issue about ''EOS not found error'' will stop me from playing the game.

Just go back to the version of the game when it got released on Steam.

The game has has not worked at all for me. I cannot get past "Connecting to Epic Online Services." Maybe it will work if I leave it for an infinite amount of time but I left it for 5 minutes once and about 10 minutes another time and that was enough for me to ALT-TAB and kill the task in Task Manager.

I honestly don't care about the always connected thing, but if I cannot connect and thus cannot play, that puts a bit of a damper on the experience.

Unable to connect because I need to be logged into my Epic account. However Steam will not link to my Epic account therefore making the game stay in stupid mode. Great to know this now after I paid for it. Thanks
