What is with the zombie re-spawns?
Cleared out a courtyard, picked up an energy drink, done a 180 and BAM whole courtyard full of zombies. It seems to happen in all areas that I clean out now.

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of it either. I enjoyed the fact that in previous titles I could clear out areas and explore, however it seems like if you go a certain distance, zombies will infinitely respawn.

I've had more than a couple times where one of those explodey ones will spawn underneath me and explode. I've seen them materialize out of thin air, but it's like one in a thousand. It's annoying, but not often enough for me to consider it a deal breaker personally.

I'm seeing them fade into view too, a literall respawn in front of me. At first I thougth it was something wrong with my pc (AMD video card). It's the ones that do the reverse Thanos-finger-snap effect that breaks my immersion.

Yeah, I've seen this plenty of times, too. Typically, enemies seem to spawn from specific spawn points like manholes and windows that look more believable, but some areas don't seem to have any of those around so zombies just materialize. I also noticed that zombies seem to spawn infinitely in certain areas until you kill a specific enemy or cross a certain point. Noticed this the first time in Halperin Hotel at the front door until you actually step foot inside. Also the parking garage kept spawning them until I killed the brute and the named security guard.

This is one of my gripes with the game is that the spawn system is wonky, zombies will spawn when im 10 feet away from an area i cleared and if they arent aggro'd to you looking away and looking will despawn some or spawn more.

Or the other way around. You turn left and when you turn back right the zombie is gone :steamfacepalm:

Yeah this is pretty bad in the game design department.

Never had a problem with it personally. I see zombies I kill zombies. Sometimes doing an objective will call the game to respawn or send a wave of 3-5 zombies or depending on various things it will send more or less. Not really a problem.. Its a zombie game and there are atleast 1.5m zombies within the area...

I have seen a few odd cases of zombies materializing right in front of me, or straight up disappear and re-appear behind me.

The spawning engine is anything but smooth. That's for sure.

That said, there are a few areas where the random spawning works quite organically, like at Venice Beach or the bay, where zombies come up from under the sand. It looks believable and would explain how they appear out of nowhere, despite having cleared every visible zombie. On the flip side, in the urban areas, it's literally borked.

don't like it either. DI 1 & riptide has a more "realistic" spawn mechanism imo; DI2 seems to be related with your "view window", turn around , and boom, all respawn from nowhere...

they climb out of the sewers, the sewers act like spawn points for the zombies, i kinda like this idea, but the frequency at which they show up again should be reduced so that you can explore in peace
