If a game offers multiplayer epic requires it to have cross play with other PC stores the game is on regardless if a game was ever exclusive. Developers can choose what ever they want to provide such a functionality. Epic provides this service for free, and the service has a lot of other features too. Using EOS is not required to provide the functionality, but considering nobody else provides the services EOS provides for cross platform and it's free it makes sense why more and more developers are choosing to use this service.

Most games dont have issues with EOS, and the ones that do it's always the developers having to patch their own game to fix the issue, so it's the developers fault. By the way Epic provides the service free regardless if a game is on EGS or not, for example Palworld uses EOS despite not being on EGS. It's a middleware that you'll see more developers use since nobody else provides a Steamworks like system that works across platforms, including consoles and mobile, and PC stores.

Recently Epic released their GDC video about EOS, and they had some.interering stats to share about the the effects cross play has on player engagement and retention, it's not small effect, it's a significant one. So there is a lot of incentive for developers to have cross play for their games with an MP component, and as long as Epic is the only one providing a full service for this stuff we'll see more and more use of EOS.

The thing is, the people who didn't know any better will definitely remember for the next time, and it will hurt Epic and any company that tries similar strategies. It was already suspected that Epic was always trying to strongarm gamers into using them. Because of DI2, even less people will give them a chance next time.

isnt that basically everyone? And steam enforces windows 10/11 anyways so you cant run anything older on it. You also need an email to sign up for steam and phone for verification purposes too.....soooo.....

Steam lags my system way more than any other platform does origin, ulpay, GOG, Blizzard Rockstar and even Epic doesn't lag anything like Bloated Steam.. And my system is seven years old mostly..
