Cannot join my friend "Not Compatible"

I cannot join him because the game says joining him is "non compatible" I am level 30 and he is level 21. Any fix? Or is it because of the level difference being too far apart?

Sadly if your friend isn't at the exact same story mission and side quest pregress as you are, it prevents you from joining

we got the problem too but we are on the same mission just get the co-op mod enable what i need to do ?

Epic games type of thing. If he has it enabled and you don't can't join, and vice versa. Sign in to epic and try again,

My friend and i are at the exact same EVERYTHING, side quest, story quest, Level, XP, and it says 'Dead Island 2 (Not Compatible) 0/0
