Dead Island 2 - FAQ
1. What is Dead Island 2?
Dead Island 2 is a thrilling First-Person Action RPG; stylish, vibrant and flooded with zombie infection. Explore an iconic, gore-drenched Los Angeles; meet larger-than-life characters; slay countless foes in exquisitely bloody detail; and evolve to become the ultimate Zombie Slayer. Developed by Dambuster Studios - and published by Deep Silver - it is the sequel to the popular Dead Island Series.

2. Can I play Dead Island 2 solo or is it multiplayer-only?
Dead Island 2 features both single-player and multiplayer modes. Players can enjoy the game solo or team up with friends for some cooperative zombie-slaying fun.

3. Is it possible to play cross-play with friends?
Dead Island 2 has cross-play functionality for PC versions only, so it is possible for friends to play together on Steam and Epic Games.

4. Do I need Epic Games Launcher to play Dead Island 2 on Steam?
The Epic Games Launcher isn't required to play the game. If you prefer enjoying either single-player or multiplayer with other Steam users, you won't need the Epic Games Launcher.

However, for crossplay with players who own the game on Epic, linking to your Epic Games Account is necessary to sync up friends lists.

Additionally, if players wish to unlock extras through PROS (such as skins, etc.), they will NOT need to link an Epic account.

5. What features can I expect in Dead Island 2?
  • Open-world exploration
  • Dynamic combat mechanics
  • Character progression
  • Crafting
  • Cooperative multiplayer
  • Diverse range of weapons and equipment
  • Story-driven quests and missions
6. Are there any DLCs or special editions?
Yes! Dead Island 2 has two confirmed story expansions. You can already lose yourself in a surreal, psycho-horror dreamscape with the first expansion, Haus, and dive into the vibrant, summery SoLA festival with the second expansion.

Currently, there are several offers available:
  • Base Game
  • Expansion Pass (which includes both story DLCs: Haus and SoLA)
  • Ultimate Edition

Ultimate Edition
7. What is included in Ultimate Edition?
  • Dead Island 2 Main Game
  • Expansion Pass – Haus and SoLA story expansion DLCs
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Pack
  • Memories of Banoi Pack
  • Golden Weapons Pack
  • Pulp Weapons Pack
  • Red’s Demise Pack
  • Each Slayer’s Premium Character Pack
8. I own Gold Edition, will I get new content from Ultimate Edition?
Steam
Yes, your Gold Edition will be automatically upgraded to the Ultimate Edition on Steam
Xbox
On Xbox, like with the expansions, it can take a while until all newly added content is visible (in the console settings and in-game) due to store caching.
PS
On PS, as with the expansion pass, content gold owners need to go to the store and claim the newly added content for free. There may be a few cases where players don't see the free price tag. In this case the free price can be selected from the drop down.

9.How do I get access to the DLC content in-game?
You can access the main story and all the Premium Character and Weapon Packs immediately.

You can start the Dead Island 2: Haus DLC after completing "The Chosen One"

You can start the Dead Island 2: SoLA DLC once you’ve reached a main story mission called Beach Offensive. This will allow you to select the SoLA destination from the fast travel board at the Blue Crab restaurant.

Patch 6
10.What’s in Patch 6
Patch 6 is free for everyone who owns Dead Island 2 base game. Patch 6 includes a list of bugfixes' and two brand new game modes: Neighborhood Watch and New Game Plus

New Game +
11. What’s New Game Plus?
A special mode where players can take their existing character progression from a completed save and do a more challenging playthrough with new unique rewards.

12. How do I start NG+?
  • After completing the story, a pop-up will let you know NG+ is unlocked.
  • Head to the Main Menu -> Slayers, and export your character to NG+, which now has its own tab in the menu.
  • Pro tip: We recommend being at least level 30 before taking the plunge.

13. Can I access the save before NG+?
Yes, exporting your Slayer to NG+ creates a separate save. Your original save remains unaltered and can be accessed from the Slayer menu for further exploration or co-op play.

14. Will I keep my equipment?
The save file carries over your Slayer’s level, Skill Cards, and Inventory. Note that keys, journals and weapons left in the Storage Locker are not carried over.

15. Can I play co-op NG+?
NG+ and Standard mode are separate. Meaning a NG+ friend cannot join a friend's session if that friend is still in standard mode. And vice versa, but the NG+ person can swap back to their standard save to join / help their friend. To play in NG+ both players will need to be in NG+ and the person that is ahead progression wise, needs to join the person that is behind.

16. Can you switch characters in NG+?
No, you use the character that has completed the game and unlocked NG+ . If you want to play NG+ with the other characters, then you need to complete the standard game with those characters too.

17. Can I export the same original save twice?
No, you can only export the original save once. If you attempt to export it again, it will overwrite the existing NG+ slot for that character.

Neighborhood Watch
18. What is Neighborhood Watch?
Neighborhood Watch (NHW) is a 3 players co-op game mode that offers a unique mix of roguelike, defend the shelter and horde mechanics, within the gameplay of DI2.

19. How to start NHW?
NHW is available from the Main Menu

20. Can I play NHW solo?
Yes, you can play NHW in both solo and co-op modes (with friends or randoms). Please note, that playing in solo will be more challenging.

21. Do I need to finish the main game to play NHW?
No, NHW mode is available right from the start.

22. Is there level/game progress limitation for NHW matchmaking?
No, there are no restrictions based on game progression for NHW matchmaking.

23. Can I join a game of NHW already in progress?
No, you can only join a session from the lobby before it starts.

24.Can my team include two or three of the same Bobcat?
Yes.

Known issues regarding NHW and NG+
  • If the host of an NHW session has an active NG+ save, the session will be as difficult as NG+, making it very challenging. The host needs to re-select their standard save before hosting NHW to fix this. Don’t worry—it won’t affect your NG+ run, and you can switch back to your NG+ save at any time.
  • For mission objectives where you must kill a certain amount of zombies/need to hold out for a certain amount of time, it can happen that the objective does not seem to progress. The reason is that you probably missed a mission relevant zombie. To progress, search the nearby area for any zombie hiding and kill them.

Before the game hits steam , i want to share some things for devs.

Base info. Pc epic, gold edition, 100%, platinium, every quest completed.

The public matchmaking is terrible.

1st: there is an error 0x0015 when joining a public session if:
Your character is located in sola and the host you are joining doesn’t own the dlc.
Workaround: dev fix or create a solo session, move your char to a main game area, save&exit , then join a public session.

If you want to join sola session, keep your char in sola then join a public session. After some 0x0015 error, the matchmaking will found a sola dlc host, if available.

2nd: it would be great to choose a host by his progress on the story.
I mean, to select where in the story you want to join a public host.

The current state of the public matchmaking is very bad, for the epic version.

Well, hope the steam release will bring some new folks.
See ya in hell-a

I have a question! Can we get more power? Like level 50 and 650 or more for our weapons? This new expansion has me on the floor more than making progress cos I feel weak!

I've been hearing that the game doesn't allow you to play singleplayer without an internet connection. That's just a bug people have been experiencing, right? If not, you should really disclose that.

Came here to say that. There is no internet connection listed as required under the specs but it sounds like people can't launch the game without connecting to EOS.

There is a problem with the audio levels in this game. In game audio is extremely quiet for some reason. All audio sliders have been maxed out obviously. Never had this in a game before so it has to be the game doing it.
