Avernus? Really?
I just came across this pre-release listing and thought it odd that a name well known to be part of the Dungeons and Dragons franchise. While it's not copyrighted, the name could confuse some players. It may be that the goal here is to attract D&D players.

I feel that you're reading a bit too deep into it. Besides the adventure 'Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus', Avernus existing in D&D lore doesn't seem like a significant part of D&D for most people. The name Avernus also comes from Roman (IIRC) mythology originally, so it's been repurposed in D&D as well as in this game.

And the store page doesn't seek to confuse the game with D&D, so I don't see the potential harm (if that's what you meant) even if one would come there looking for something D&D related; they would see what the game is and either be interested or move on. ^^'

Dunno, he might be right though. I tried googling Avernus and the first three pages is only about D&D's Avernus. Not a single link about this game.
It's not a bad idea as such, if they like the game it could sell well.

From Wikipedia:

Avernus was an ancient name for a volcanic crater near Cumae (Cuma), Italy, in the region of Campania west of Naples. Part of the Phlegraean Fields of volcanoes, Avernus is approximately 3.2 km (2.0 mi) in circumference. Within the crater is Lake Avernus (Lago d'Averno).

Role in ancient Roman society

Avernus was believed to be the entrance to the underworld, and is portrayed as such in the Aeneid of Virgil. According to tradition, all birds flying over the lake were destined to fall dead, hence the lake’s name was transferred to Greek as Ἄορνος (λίμνη) Áornos (límnē)‚ or "Birdless (lake)". This was likely due to the toxic fumes that mouths of the crater gave off into the atmosphere. In later times, the word was simply an alternative name for the underworld.

So it predates D&D by centuries and they ripped it off themselves. I see no problem here.

Besides, f*** D&D with their OGL 1.1.

Definition of dungeon is: https://search.brave.com/search?q=def+dungeon&source=web

1. A dark, often underground chamber used to confine prisoners.
2. A donjon.

You will not find treasures there nor real enemies either in a so called dungeon.... In a donjon(The fortified main tower of a castle; a keep.) though might be a better start.

If anybody should be sued then Dungeon and Dragons for disfiguring the English language.

Then we should sue ALL the dictionaries for disfiguring English. One language with a bazillion dictionaries? It is like reading the one Bible but interpreting it in a bazillion ways. Except our dictionaries come in a bazillion versions so are written in a bazillion ways too.

Oh. And then we sue the French for mixing their thing into our thing. Real English is actual Anglish. And that is Anglo Sachsen or something: https://youtu.be/aMA3M6b9iEY

So there is no intelligent life on Earth. which explains why we got no contact with extraterrestials. So please. Keep it down that "we are sapiens" or we get sued for faking intelligence and end up before an inter-galatic court or worse start Inter Galatic War 40K.

Note that nobody really knows how many inter galatic wars started. But everybody agrees that they stopped counting a 40K. Some would like to call it the "infinity wars" but Marvel lawyers showed up in time to kindly remind the rest of the universe that they would get sued for using such words...
