well like the original post says, I only seems able to use it on locks that i can pick already, i'll quick save and recast it tons of times and it never picks a lock of the scrolls level unless i can already pick it.
also these are AREA EFFECT on target spells spells. if you are too close to a lock you want to pick the spell will simply MISS sometimes. stand a bit back and aim at the chest.
they also dont seem to work on door locks at all.
thier purpose is to provide an option to open locks above the basic ones without leveling up lockpicking or getting perks for the higher locks. in exchange they cost money and some carryweight and are a one time use aswell.
imo pickpocket and lockpicking are pretty useless compared to handicrafting/achlemy (enchanting is overpowered and will get nerfed for certain which is why i wont list it nor would i recommenced using it currently. its definitly too strong right now and ruins balance completly unlike the former 2)
This also works for doors.
Pretend that instead of trying to hit the lock with the spell you're trying to shoot the spell under the door so it can unlock the door from the other side. You should be aiming at the ground just below the wood of the door. Works every time.
To get the hitbox every time you want to aim at the ground just barely in front of what you want to unlock. So for doors you pretend that you're trying to shoot the spell underneath the door and for something like bankvaults instead of aiming at the ground you're going to aim at the stone of the frame just below the vault door. Also try to make sure that you're aiming somewhat along the vertical centerline of the door.
