Sorry for my noobism
It has nothing to do with Skyrim and they are the core of Phasmalist builds.
Seems to me I had the capacity to capture souls in gems in vanilla Skyrim too. In any event, ok, but in what way do they factor into a Phasmalist's abilities? Do they control/influence the strength of summoned creatures?
That's still in Enderal and it is something different. You catch the soul of living creatures in soul gems by casting soul trap on them before they die. These gems are used to enchant items or refill enchanted weapons.
You use a soul (and some other things) to craft the item that lets you summon an apparition based on the soul you used. Each soul has different abilities and strengths.
No soul, no apparition.
Net of Souls is not a Soultrap spell that fills soulgems. Its an ability to let you collect unique souls of already deceased people in the world in specific locations, indicated by a Ghostly sound these souls make. These 20 souls then can be crafted into a special amulet that allows you to summon these beings... you can equip them with gear and spells... basically giving you control over them like over a companion in Skyrim.
Thanks, smh they didn't mention this in game during the quest
