It doesn't.
I got confused about which quest that is, disregard.
I assume OP is talking about "Secrets" though, and this one doesn't.

Isn't the quest called "The Void"?
If it is, the strongbox is under water, where the river east to Yero's house meets the sea. And it should be marked with a quest marker, unless you deactivated that somehow.

If you're talking about the key from the strongbox, then I think it's used somewhere in the secret vaults of the sun temple, based on something I read in an unfinished wiki page.

The strongbox is pinpointed exactly by the quest marker.

I'm now at the point of no return at the end of the game. The Void was one of the earliest quests, which of course I completed, including finding the strongbox. However, I do not have Yero's key, nor do I have The Secret as either an open or completed quest. I can't imagine that I would not have picked up the key from it, as I always empty strongboxes.

I can't get into Yero's tower because I don't have the key, which it requires. I have gone back to where the strongbox was in the river and searched exhaustively; it's no longer there. My guess is that The Secret was removed from the SE version of Enderal.

I don't think the key is in the strongbox. I believe it's laying on a table in the wrecked house. The quest "Secrets" doesn't show up until you find the key, but it's still in the game. Try ransacking Yero's house thoroughly.

I was mistaken - the strongbox is still there, it's just hard to find. The key was still in it - don't know how failed to pick it up. At any rate, with the key, I was able to get into Yero's tower and continue things.

FYI, the strongbox is in the river just where it empties into the ocean. On the west side, opposite the dock, there is a large boulder in the river. If you stand on its south side, facing the house and dock, the strongbox is in the water less than 2 body lengths in front of you, beside a small water plant. It's hard to see because it's blurry and half buried, and hard to search carefully for because the water keeps moving you.
