Should I play with quest markers for the first time?
It feels like I'm cheating almost due to how the map was designed.

Yes. Some things are really difficult to find otherwise. You could use iHud though, that should work with Enderal. iHud hides quest markers and compass, but you can display everything again with a button when you need it.

There are also some quests that don't have quest markers, so you will get a bit of a challenge with those.

I believe that disabling quest markers in Enderal is a bad idea - there are no detailed directions to quest locations as in Morrowind.

I have quest markers and compass disabled. But I can open the map and press L, if I need help - and it works with me.

Thank you all for your input :). I settled for a hybrid of quest markers on the map but no floating.
